ET38mm 11" wide will poke 9mm more than 343m, which are ET34mm and 10" wide. However, the tire on the 343m is 4mm more outboard, or a little over 1/8".

Bit of an update. Called KW to ask for their take.
Option 1: Get stiffer springs At least for the xDrive coilovers, their struts are designed to handle an additional 150lb/sq-in over stock, with stock being 185lb/sq-in. Rep recommended me a 213lb/sq-in @ $79.30 a spring, P/N 60210004. It would have to be special ordered from Germany though, so 1 month lead time. Would also require me to undo that damn strut bolt that I worked so hard to torque to spec... Would also result in a firmer/bouncier ride. Option 2: New tires. I've already been thinking of dropping down to 285's for the rear since the poke is not ideal and I really don't like how the poke looks, and also downgrading to all seasons since I don't drive hard enough these days to warrant such expensive and high performance tires. I'll be going back to school soon and the flexibility of all seasons would be nice. Debating on going to a 255/35/20 285/30/20 combo, with the rears at 1.1% smaller. BMW specs a 245/35/20 275/30/20 (also 1.1%) on xDrive cars already from the factory, so in theory 255 285 should be fine. Not a fan of a 245 on a 9" rim Option 3: Raise above their max specified height Rep said they can't endorse that, as it would void warranty and if you ever sent it in for rebuild they would have to charge full price for the service. That said, I can't see how they would ever know it was above max height if you bring it down right before shipping it off. Kind of immoral, obviously. There is the chance that the piston could top out (bottom out? idk if there is a term for hitting the ceiling) but that would be a pretty extreme scenario, given that at most I'd go out of spec by a third of an inch max. This is probably going to be my temp fix for now.

Option 1 - I wouldn't go with a more harsh ride
Option 2 - my choice Option 3 - defeats the purpose of having coil overs. I also doubt they would know you went above recommended height |

Option 1 - Yea, not deal. Though I'm also not sure how harsh it would be. Might be able to dial it out with rebound/bump adjustments, but definitely a last resort Option 2 - Definitely first choice, just that it's hard to find the Pilot Sport All Season 4's in stock at 255/35/20. Tire rack doesn't have them, and costco only has a run flat one. Even discount tire doesn't have them in stock with a ETA Option 3 - Due to the tire combo and offset, the max height is actually already pretty slammed. Like maybe a finger and half. I would at most raise it closer to 2 and a half. Why must tires have a shortage! Ahhhhhhhhhhhh

The default rear springs that come with Silvers are 8k, or 448 lb/in. Are you saying the default spring with KW-V3 are only 185 lb/in? I wonder what the spring rates are for the stock suspension?

That's what the tech rep told me, but also keep in mind the silvers are linear while KW are progressive. The 185 is probably the nominal spring rate for their spring.

I just custom ordered the Silvers with 10k F (560 lb/in) and 7k rear (392 lb/in). Their people thought anything softer would be too soft, even though I'm not planning to go very low. Their default rates are 12k/8k.
No wonder you noticed such a difference between the two. I'm wondering now if I should have gone with even softer springs… I guess time will tell. Anyway, thanks for the info, and end of thread hijack. |
