My car (2011 f10 535i) suddenly started misfiring last week and gave me a DTM message. It felt really sluggish and was clearly struggling, especially during ignition. My first instinct was sparkplugs or ignition coils. However, upon getting the codes, it turns out to be P15DF and not a sparkplug misfire. The other code basically points to high Pressure Fuel Pump malfunction.

Quotes I am getting are $2500 which seems rather pricey. Basically around $1500 for hpfp and $700 for lpfp, and another 300 for re-programming. The parts are OEM. I was considering doing 3rd party Bosch. Is this a bad idea?

Does anyone have any experience with this? I am curious to know whether programming is absolutely necessary? Also the lpfp was just a recommendation by the shop, so I could skip that.

I am having drivetrain malfunction issues on my 2013 528i xdrive.

The codes I am getting are:11A002, 11AC02, 213601, 108A01, P0015, and P0087.

The car has a brand new engine, turbo, air filter, tmap, fuel pressure sensor, lpfp, hpfp, spark plugs, and coils. I have also cleaned the MAF.

I am lost on what to do next.

Please... Please... provide assistance on next steps to take.

There's a recall for lpfp so check into that.
Stock Hpfp does not require programming unless you are upgrading to a stage 2 or 3.

If you need to reset adaptions you can buy the BMW icarly obd and get a ton of other features for under 100 bucks. MHD lets you reset adaptions too plus flash tune.

Yeah, I had my lpfp swapped out last year through the recall at the dealer. I'm thinking that might be under warranty. I'll follow up with them.

The big question is whether I can get a non-OEM hpfp. Seems like if I do that and skip lpfp and programming, then the price drops from $2500 to $700-800 which is much more manageable

Or get a rebuilt hpfp from eBay for 200 bucks... Make sure it is rebuilt on original core with OEM recommended parts.

Stay OEM. Do you have the continental hpfp? What programming are they talking about btw? Adaptions?

Or maybe the OP has an N55, he really doesn't say much apart from 2011 F10...

MHD is only for the inline six engines so far. But if you have a N63TU, Bootmod3 has a flash tune available. Also lets you reset adaptations.

OP has a 535 listed in his bio, so I assume he's talking about that car.

To be honest, I'm not sure. Sounded like a new hpfp requires programming. Few others I asked said no such programming is needed

Just wanted to post an update to close out this thread.

I ended up buying the HPFP from Pelican Parts for around $600 and had a friend help with the swap out. I shippped back the old core and got $100 back from Pelican. Pretty neat! The whole job took about 4.5 hours, but we also wasted an hour in the middle by having to drive out and buy long hex sockets (which I totally forgot about). The job basically took so long because we had to take apart the right side of the engine, take out a bunch of things to get to HPFP, swap it out, replace some of the gaskets and put everything back together. Would've taken me a lot longer, but my friend was a mechanic back in College and had a bunch of tools that came in handy. I bought him dinner and lunch that day

Total cost: $500 + $100 worth of food or so.

No re-programming BS. no $3000 car shop quote. 4 hours of work (they quoted me 6-7 hours). Car runs great and is no longer throwing error codes or being sluggish/misfiring

I love seeing this kind of thing. I own an E92 M3 and recently needed to swap out the alternator. In the M3 forums I saw how bad quotes are from the swap. Bought one brand new, took out my old one and threw the new one in. Cost me about $300 and about 4 hours of work. Runs perfectly now. Bravo on the DIY - they're called the stealers for a reason.
