Spring Installation & Caliper Painting Bill from Prestige BMW seems too $$$

Hey guys

I got my H&R Springs installed as well as my calipers painted red by my dealer, Prestige BMW. I love both mods, they look amazing. However, when I got the bill for the labor, it seemed a little unreasonable. For the calipers, they said it took 6 hours, and they charged me around $800, while a reputable company like Oneighty charges $500 with a custom decal.

When it comes to springs, they said installation plus alignment costed $1000 roughly, but I've heard rumors on the forums that paid only $400-600.

How much have you guys paid for these types of work? Lemme know.

I don't have my calipers painted but had my H&Rs installed by a reputable shop here in Toronto. It cost me $300 to get them done. Alignment was another $149 and was done at the dealership. I find these numbers too steep. You should have asked for a quote before having this done at the Stealership! I hope you can reason with them and cut on the loses...

What dealership was that? In my opinion you over paid.
My cost was 350 for the spring install, done at AK motorwerk by Alex he is a form member.
The calipers I did myself ,cost was around 40.
Are you happy with the results? Thats all that matters!

HOLY SH!^!!! $800 for painted calipers??

I'll admit, I got taken on my coil-over install, and spent 1100 on labor... I won't make that mistake again.

If I were you I'd show a little bit of outrage at the whole "6hrs labor" on the calipers. I don't think they should be charging you labor for the dry time between coats!! I guarantee the tech worked (and billed) hrs on something else during your dry time.

Wow that is insane. I went to EAS to get my H&Rs installed, it took them 3 hrs and they charged me $350. I don't know what u can do at this point, but like others have said, you should have asked for a quote first. Good luck.

Wow, that's a lot. I got my springs installed for around 250 and alignment for 100. Painted calipers myself for about 20 dollars. Autozone had buy 1 VHT paint, get 2nd half off.

But you get a piece of mind if anything goes wrong with the brakes or springs. You can always blame it on them.

Not sure why you wouldn't ask for a quote first.

just think of it this way... normally if something is wrong with the car after you mod it, the dealers are fast at saying "oh, that's an aftermarket mod you did so we won't cover that. But this time you have the license to bit*h at them if anything goes wrong.

Seriously...

You got major ripped off man. I painted my own calipers and it took me 2 hours tops and the cost was less than 15 bucks for the paint and decal. Spring installation should run between 3-500 tops and alignment another 150 or so.

Where did you get your installation done?

I went around my area (brooklyn) and found the cheapest place, some local mechanic. Some quoted 300-350. Everything seems to fine.
