TPMS Sensors from 2011 3 series
Hey Guys,
I recently purchase a set of wheels from a 2011 3 series, TPMS sensors were working on his car, I installed them on mine (2013 535i), and did the TPMS reset on the iDrive and it telling me that there is an error with the TPMS system. I'm thinking that I need a different TPMS sensors for my car? or I'm doing something wrong on the iDrive? also are they expensive? I have them on my old wheels, and wondering if I should ask a shop to remove then and install them on the new wheels Thanks |

If your old sensors worked then I would install them in your new wheels. I'd imagine the 3-series sensors aren't compatible. New sensors are around $75 each.

I had a similar issue when I installed my wheels from my E60 to my F10, they read but not the temps or PSI. Just doing a quick search I looks like the 3 series has a different part number from your 5 series. Maybe they can be coded, IDK. Call BMW and ask them if it should work, if not replace them but if they are compatible then find someone local with ISTA. Sorry not much help, good luck

Your issue with TP sensors is not unusual. Your experiencing a compatibility issue between an older series 3 and your series 5. BMW seems to constantly change sensors over models and years. They even used different sensors within the F10 family. Specifically, sensors from for cars made before 2013 (Pre LCI models) do not fully work with F10's made in 2014 and newer. Other than selling more sensors, there seems no good reason for this.

Thanks for the info, I'm going to call a tire shop on Monday and see how much they will charge me for switching my sensors from my old wheels to the new ones, over just installing new ones on the wheels. Thanks
