help gauging a price

So I'm currently in the market for a 2014-16 550i. I've done my homework on the car inside and out. But I'm still kind of new to this. To anyone with the knowledge, what's a good price on a 550 with the n63TU? My tip top budget is $22000. Which according to my research actually send a few hundred over the recommended pricing for a 2014 fully optioned 550. I'm definitely not paying full price because it's clear the dealerships in my area are marking the price up because I've seen examples with completely different packages && mileage from 40k to 90k all ranging at $25k. From vehicles with accident reports, to base models. The dealership sweet spot for a N63TU is 25k. So I can finely wiggle my way out of a few thousand with the right arguments and attitude. Suggestions?

Used car prices are insane now due to the car shortage. Look on Autotrader and see the lack of used cars. I was looking nationally for a 2019 540 and there are less than 75. Dealers aren't too willing to discount now as they know what they have.

There are a few things that can drive a price down, even if the market is hot:

1. Knowing that the car has sat for a while on the lot....
2. Inspecting the vehicle (use to mark down or have the dealer fix)
- Worn brakes
- Bald tires
- Very old tires - you can check dates on each one
- Oil leaks (fluid leaks in general, including washer fluid tank leaks)
- Windshield defects
- Dents
- Bad Paint
- Missing parts
- Use of non-BMW parts (cheap parts....)
- Aftermarket installed parts (alarms, radar detector, etc)
- Bad idle
- Fault Codes set
- Only 1 key
- No maintenance/repair history (e.g. no Carfax report)
- Not factory cold A/C operation
- Heavily damaged under front bumper
- Heavily oxidized front headlight lens
- Bad odors (gas, oil, perfume, mold, etc)
3. Know what options drives the value of the vehicle using KBB/Edmunds
- Used dealers typically price their under-optioned cars equal to those that are fully loaded...if you can catch them at this, they may back the price down
4. Your skill at being a negotiator

If you can't find anything listed in item 2 above, well $25K might be a bargain......

Good luck with that budget--i'm just saying. i just bought a super clean, loaded '16 550i w/ 16,xxx miles for $41,500 out the door (from a BMW dealership). 1 Owner, cream puff. I've been looking pretty hard for the past month or so but I'm happy with the price. i hate that i had to buy a car now when vehicle prices are at an all time high but needed a car.

I just (well, I pick it up on Monday) got a 2019 very well equipped 540i with ~26K miles for $51K OTD.

I have a '16 550i with 35k miles, and keep tabs on pricing/trade-in. Not sure where you're seeing N63TU F10 for $25k. Maybe with very high miles. My recent Carvana offer is right around $32k, and sale prices are near $37k.

My 2 cents...you'll be lucky to find a decent N55 F10 for $22k.

Picked my 2014 535d up with 65k miles fully loaded including hud and AC seats for $23,500. The diesel is a little harder to find with less than 10 nationally in AWD.
If you're willing to ship the car and buy it over the internet - you might find what you seek. You will however spend 1-2k shipping the vehicle and will need to spend $200 on a third party inspection.

having just purchased a 2012 535i in socal in nov last year, I can say if you're looking broaden your scope (I usually buy private party). Used car lots, reputable ones usually buy from auction or wholesale from dealerships, but they're at least willing to flex on price a little.

Lastly, be patient. Took me 3 months of searching and sadly yes, paid more than I wanted to, but the market is what it is.

I'm also getting ready to start the search on a 2005-2010 Porsche 911 (non turbo, manual). Probably the worst time to look, but I'm hoping that translates to a good sale price for my e46 m3, which the Porsche would replace.
