Tyre pressure sensors
Ok, I have a set of winter tyres that were on a 2013 f10. They worked and the idrive system knew when I swapped between summer and winter sets in relation to the tyre pressure monitor system (I didn’t have the pressures shown)
However I have just taken a 2016 which now also has the pressure reading on the idrive so will I need to do anything to the existing wheels. As far as I know they don’t have any sensors in them? Any help or advice appreciated Thanks |

If you didn't have the pressures shown on the iDrive, this was the tyre pressure warning system, TPWS, which operated off the ABS system, detecting changes in wheel rotation related to loss of pressure. No special valves required, standard rubber-stem. Tyre pressure measuring system (TPMS) on LCi (post late-2013) models requires special valves which link wirelessly to the iDrive to show the pressures. Put your VIN into realoem.com then browse parts and select wheels and the valve part numbers will appear. The TPMS valves are not rubber but usually silver coloured.

Or just drive with the warning on. You can also code the TPMS off and TPWS on.

Thanks Xenon, would that affect anything, cut the power/put into limp mode? Make the vehicle illegal?, appreciate I would need to manually check the wheel pressure, but I do that every couple of weeks anyway. (Sorry if the questions sound stupid)

No the car does not go into limp mode and it's not illegal either. I drove a winter like that and just kept an eye on pressures like we did in the good old days.

I didn't pull any fuses out. I don't know if Bimmercode will do it but ESys will. I have the settings somewhere.
