F10 timing chain (which parts will be changed ?)

Hi,

I have 2013 5.25d xDrive (120K miles). I think it is time to change chains. Do you know which parts that I have to change ? Only upper and lower timing chains with tensioners ? And also oil pump chain, camshaft sprocket, sprocket that have 2 gears ?

I hope some of our European friends can help you out! We in USA never got this engine (the only diesel we got was the N57 on the535d). Good luck!

Shouldn't most timing chains last the life of the vehicle?

in theory, yes! In practice, not always lol. And often time it's not necessarily chain issue but the related components. take the pre-2015 N20 engines on the 528i for example. Rarely ever chain stretch. Typically the issue was crank sprocket teeth ground down due to metal being too soft, or the plastic guides becoming brittle and breaking. Other cars like GM's 3.6 V6 is NOTORIOUS for chain stretch AND related components commiting suicide

I'm just not familiar with his engine in particular since I've never seen it. No clue what it's known for or not. I know the N57! That monster in the 535d is God's diesel when all the deletes are done
