I tried my hand at some landscaping last weekend. Cut end of driveway and create privacy from neighbor! I'll pay someone next time this old man is destroyed!

Costco sells them for like $40/each - maybe even less.

No way. I can't believe that, unless you forgot a zero. A tree that tall up here (admittedly from a garden store, not Costco), would be at least $400/tree, probably closer to $550/tree.

It's ridiculous if you want a tree that is already that high.

They appear to be about 5-6' tall and no, I didn't forget a zero because I bought a couple for my deck a few years ago. If they were over $40, I'd be shocked. I got a 4' ornamental Japanese maple from Home Depot for only $50 two years ago as well and it's thriving.

KingOfjericho is right. those look like they're about 6ft tall and should cost around that range. I just bought 6ft tall Ficus trees for like $35 a tree at a local nursery.

The price differential is amazing then...I don't know why it is that much, but if you wanted a 4-5 ft tall blue spruce up here (because I was thinking about it), they are about $400 - $450 per tree. And a similar sized maple is about $250-$300.

LOL - then how much is your Christmas tree? A grand?!?! I would imagine selling trees in Canada is like selling sand at the beach...

That's the funny thing - Christmas trees are like $25-$80 (depending on type and height you want), BUT that's because they are chopped off at the trunk and only last a month or so. You can't plant them.

Trees that you can plant (ie have the root ball and everything), that's where it is expensive. Crazy, I know.

Bought the house last December but didn't move in until March of this year.

so first things first we didn't like the color walls so that was the first thing to go was that

the house had about a million holes so after spackling all the holes i went ahead and hooked up my hopper to my compressor and retextured the whole house in the bluish room i ended up ripping out all the cabinets since we didn't plan to keep it an office but her girley room for her friends to hang out of.

spray texture everywhere!

installed Crown Moulding throughout the house

wife wanted to redo color in the Master Bedroom and MasterBath so here i used Behr Marquee Distant Star (nuetral grays)

the vanity closet pretty much had those cheap wire shelves so i ended up taking them out and building in custom shelves for her liking

they had some type of film that had flower prints and so we wanted to change it to something more appealing and we found these door kits from Lowe's

also added crown moulding to the top of the door to give it more character

here's the fireplace which housed a tv on top so i decided to close it off and make the fireplace and more central piece

going up stairs was this book shelving case on the wall which i ended up pulling the shelves out sealing everything up and adding case moulding to the sides and top and building a shelf on the botton so the wife can put whatever she wants

picked up the Samsung front loaders for the washer and dryer but Lowe's wanted almost $500 for the stands so i ended up building my own

some of the furniture like the china cabinet and dining table and chairs i had stained cherry but we decided to stain them a Satin Black

the back wall where the china buffet sits up against i used textured wall paper and had it painted alot darker gray to give it contrast against the other gray throughout the house

that's it for this year. next year's project will be replacing the wood flooring to bamboo as you can see the previous owner tried to sand and restain the floor and you can see divets all over . probably use a similar color to what it is now...mocha or something dark but in bamboo

I'm so copying that washer drier thing. I didn't know i was missing out on life until now but after seeing that, that's all i want.

I have ovens elevated, dishwasher elevated yet I've never considered doing that. You sir are a genius.

Other pics are fine too but thanks for showing me the next goal in my life.

Hey Lups! Thanks! those help with not having to bend over so much when loading and unloading your clothes or whatever you wash. much better on your back! if you build it make sure you use 2 layers of MDF board or 1 OSB and 1 MDF on top. I used a single OSB board at first but when the dryer went into spin mode it rocked back and forth. so i ended up using 3/4" MDF on top and it worked good luck!

I never use mdf for anything. That material is not even so common here, we finns are weird.

I have done a million versions of a laundry room, I've put table tops on top of those two and all, and I've always hated the bending and folding laundry in the wrong night. It is quite pathetic i never considered lifting those two up from above the ground. I think I'll make a drawer for the detergents under the machines too.

My husband wants me to build us a house, but i hate the current building code here so I'm trying to find one i could renovate. I've been less than thrilled with the pressure to just come up with something, so this is quite a thrill to get excited about even a laundry room!

pretty common here in the USA with having washers/dryers sitting on pedestals. but the fact they wanted $500 for basically a metal box frame...$700 if you want them to slide out like drawers. i said the heck with that...i'll build my own! you can build the drawers yourself and just buy a set of sliders from your local parts store. good idea with using the drawers to store the laundry detergent and stuff. i probably could have done that at the time i did this but had other projects to work on lol.

let me know if you do.

Hahaha, this yet an other example of how to fuck up a house planning. Laundry is something i pay no attention to (i think it is strictly a job for men!) so even if i had seen one on a podium, this was the first time i paid attention.

I know the feeling about being ripped off. I've built bathroom sink holders(?) and so on when I've gotten mad enough about prices. At times it feels like i have some sort of stubbornness contests against myself. Our first home had a huge bathroom and sauna dressing room i spent a year designing, that ended up costing 3500 euros, and i went there just once to take some pics because i was too mad for going over budget by 125 euros. After 8 years, i still have the receipts on file and at times i actually go through the numbers just to see how i let that happen.

Yeah, if i find a house I like I'll be sure to post pics (well, if i can, i always forget to take any). I have huge issues with the modern building requirements set by stupid hippies so i have to find something i can renovate. That unfortunately brings up other issues along so don't hold your breath.

During the time when posts are brought back up - I'd like to just remind everyone that I was already declared the winner of this thread a while back

Working on the basement - something that I was putting off for a while because the previous owners placed down an 8" X 8" asbestos tile that I was not too fond of removing.

Needless, took it out, and replaced it with an 18" x 18" porcelain tile. Still need to grout, but a huge improvement over what it once was. Not too bad for just a laundry room. Still have the bathroom down here to do...and some other small items.

Laundry room here is 26' x 8.5' - and has a 4.5' x 7' 1/2 bathroom off it. Still debating on if I want to take out the regular toilet and drop in a manly urinal (as I'm not really one to drop the deuce in the basement bathroom).

With the above post on the tile, was also considering moving my fish tank and putting all the guts down here in the basement as well - post 95 shows how I cut the fish tank into my wall...but I don't think I actually posted the fish room at all.

Since we added the 2nd floor, I haven't been overly wild about having the fish tank in the dining room...would rather it be in our living room. Hence the consideration to move this.

Here's some shots of the fish room. It's a pretty tight 8x10 area that sits behind the scene of the display tank.

Here's a quick video tour of the fish room - this was done a while back
