Will 17" wheels fit on a 550i?
EDIT: BMW Style 327 17" wheels fit my 2012 550i M-sport!
I got poked by the needle in a haystack. See, last spring I bought a delightful 535 6MT... Imperial Blue M-Sport. Never really considered a 550i as I really wanted a blue car with a manual, and that's almost unheard of in a 550i. We get enough snow in Pittsburgh to justify Blizzaks and I have under 1000 miles on mine.. mounted on BMW Style 327 wheels. And now the needle that poked me is an 550i 6MT, Imperial Blue M-Sport! According to BMW brochures, the 550 and 535 have the same size front rotors. The 550i gets larger rear rotors than the 535, but not as big as the fronts. I assumed any interference would be with the front brakes. Does anybody KNOW 17s won't fit on a 550i? Does anybody have 17s on a 550i? Maybe the calipers are bigger on 550i's? I'm not to worried about how it looks in the winter and I much prefer the tallest and narrowest set-up I can get, so I'm hoping these might work. Thanks! I'm pretty sure the front brakes are bigger on the 550i and 17" won't fit.

Look at that! I'm embarrassed I hadn't thought to check them.
I think (well, hope!) I'll have the 550i and the 535i next to each other for a few days while I evaluate the 550i and make sure its a keeper. I was tempted to test fit the 17's now I'll certainly give them a try. Thank you! |

Tire Rack has a limited # of sets that will fit. The specs are 17x8 with ET30 for the 550i. Depending on the X-factor of the wheels (curvature of the back of spokes) and offsets, some 17's will fit, and some may conflict with the calipers.

That's a classy response! Thanks for the information. If the 550i comes together... still working on it... I'll try my Style 327s and see if they fit. I'm happy to know there's a good chance they will and fortunate to now be aware that some 17s will and others won't!
Thank you UPWheels. |

I must say, I'd be surprised if you can fit 17" over the 550 brakes, after all they're 374mm.

Update: My Blizzak shod Style 327's fit the 550i M-sport.
I can see how some 17's wouldn't fit if they weren't specifically designed to clear the calipers, but these fit. Oh, they aren't real pretty... but I'll go in the snow with them next year! |

It's actually a problem on the M3/M4 with the big carbon ceramic brakes and OEM 19" wheels. http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1107233

Interesting. I'd imagine driving backwards for 10-15 feet should spit them back out. Regardless, I'd rather take my chances with a pebble than on of Pittsburgh's snow covered mountains!

I just want to confirm...
I have a set of 17*8 BMW 327 wheels with 225/55/17 Dunlop Winter Sports from my last car (2011 535i). I am hoping this setup will fit my 2014 550i M-Sport xDrive, and it seems like from this thread you used the exact setup and it DID fit over the brakes? I realize clearance will be tight, but my winter wheel/tire setup is so mint I really hope I can use them again on the 550i. Just wanted confirmation that it looks like this will work, seems like you got the same exact wheels to fit. Kev |
