Gauge cluster retrofit

Can the gauge cluster from a 2013 with the bottom LCD that extends under the speedo be installed on a 2011 that has it only under the rev gauge? I did a search but could only find info on the full LCD gauge cluster which is not what I'm looking at.

If it can be retrofitted do you get all the same functionality?

Thanks

What you are referring to is called the 6WA cluster. The full LCD panel is called the 6WB.

There is plenty of info out there on retrofitting both.

Thanks that helped a lot. Unfortunately it seems when buying a used cluster it has to be cleared before it can be installed on another car and I contacted bimmer tech to see what the costs would be and it's a lot more than the cluster itself plus shipping to Poland.

Oh well, guess I'll live with the one I have.

Reusing a used cluster with VIN/Mileage data stored is a crapshoot. I didn't have any lucking finding someone domestically that could 100% virginize it. Older clusters yes, but those the 6WA/6WB.

I'd recommend simply buying the cluster you want new like I did. It is uncoded, easily installed, and once you VO code the vehicle the cluster adopts the mileage of the chassis.

Do the 6WB if you do, you won't regret it, here is mine:

Yeah the 6WB looks awesome. I remember my girlfriends cadillac had an all digital gauge cluster like that and I loved it. I'm just cheap lol and that one is like $2k. I was looking at the used 6WA on ebay for under like $200 which would have made it worth it if I could of easily swapped them.

6WBs can be had for around 1K on ebay. Does coding really cost 1K?

+1. This may be something I'd do down the road.

I was looking at the 6WA not the 6WB which on ebay I've seen under $200. Coding was $399 plus I have to ship it to Poland. So now I'd be into it like $700 which isn't worth it to me to upgrade to the 6WB.

Does anyone know if installing a 6WB in a pre-LCI would change the HUD display at all? From what I understand there are HUD and non-HUD versions of the 6WB. Will 6WB update the look of the HUD, or would it stay the same?
