Spacer need to be between the caliper and the wheel carrier.

So in order, it'll be:

Bolt head | caliper | 4mm spacer | wheel carrier

It's a bit annoying to line up the washers since it's pretty tight so I recommend using a dab of super glue to secure them to the caliper.
Strange this is, I got a hold of the actual Alpina document about installing these brakes and they have no mention of any spacers needed. So either they got Brembo to make calipers that already have a 4mm offset, OR the rotors they designed have brake surface that is 4mm closer to inside of car.. oh well, for those of us who don't have access to such Alpina parts, the X5M calipers are essentially the same.

They might have it built into the wheel carrier maybe? Dunno.

Here’s another f10 5 series option, these are brembo 6 piston calipers that are made to work with 374mm 550iGT rotors that are both light and affordable

Can you clarify what car are those calipers actually designed for?

These are Porsche Panamera 6 piston calipers that are machined to fit f10 spindle with a set of custom brackets. I been selling a lot of kits for the e70/f15 community and these definitely have excellent reputation for those who tow/take their suvs to the track. Kits come with ceramic pads and mounting bolts, also all new caliper hardware, and pretty much ready to install.

Thanks for clarifying. I’m glad to see that there’s another option for the F10, but at face value Porsche calipers don’t seem to be more cost effective than X5M calipers, especially when custom parts are needed to make it work. Do you have costings for this that you can share?

Thats a fair statement, so lets think about cost on this set up, my calipers and rotors painted and looking mint with pads, brackets, etc would run ballpark of 1700ish out of the door (could be 100-150 cheaper with cheaper rotors).
Now on to the e70 x5m set up: calipers would run ballpark of 550-700ish, they likely would be beat up so youd be looking at another 250ish for sandblast, paint, decals, clear coat. Then a set of pads will run i am not sure, likely 60-90ish.
Now a set of x5m brake rotors, these would start at 330ish each for a two piece and could be cheaper for a full cast. This adds up to a ballpark of 1600-1700 if you can find a good priced set of calipers and a have a hook up at the paint shop.

Now lets talk cons and pros :

Weight: 550iGT weighs is at 30.2lb
X5m 2 piece is ballpark of 38lbs ea, and full cast likely 42-44lb each
As we all know this will DESTROY your acceleration, fuel mileage, braking given the drastic rotation weight increase

Wheel fitment: my kits guaranteed to clear 19” wheels and fit some 18s,
X5m will clear 19s only from what i could gather

Replacement parts cost: porsche pads run 40-50 and up, quality rotors run 130ish
X5m 2 piece rotors run 330ish (double the price) pads about same

Overall efficiency/performance: Porsche are lightweight 6 piston brembo set up that porsche used till 2021
X5m are 4 piston boat anchors (extremely heavy) that bmw stopped using in 2013 i think

So it all depends, but given all the above id shoot for a lightweight set up that comes with huge 6 piston calipers and when its time to replace rotors/pads id rather be looking at 350 vs 800. But i might be overlooking something, so please let me know what you think

The whole point of most people's brake upgrades is to trade weight for a cosmetic upgrade. On that front you missed a critical point; 395mm rotors look much better than 374mm rotors.

A BMW parts bin upgrade is a set of G30/G11 calipers/374mm rotors. No machining or brackets, just longer BMW bolts and a set of spacers. Not sure about pricing/availability, but I got my bare G11 calipers cheap, blasted and painted them, they look mint. 2-piece 374mm F01 760 Brembo rotors and semi metallic pads, I was in for about $1200 Canadian with everything shipped to my door.

Thanks! I did the rears too, with 370mm F01 750/760 rotors and F10 M5 calipers. Cars like these should have come with nicer looking brakes.

Looking 🔥🔥🔥 ! Good to know this is also available as an option, but coming from f15 crowd, most choose porsche set up because of 6 piston design and how huge the caliper is. Not getting into the pad size because we are only talking looks, but z19 caliper is literally HUGE , brackets are not something unusual, both x5m and m5 front calipers have brackets/adapters , thats a standard set up.

There are G series with 395 calipers as well. They directly bolt on with a 4mm washer. You use X5M/X6M rotors.

They are excellent, but still need brackets to fit and are very pricey 👍 will they clear 19” wheels you think ? I dont have any experience with these yet

I was referring to the same style caliper that Blue Angel had posted. They pretty much bolt onto any 5, 6, 7 series BMW beside M cars. They come in three sizes.

348 - retain original rotor

374 - uses larger rotor from 7 series or euro 5 seriesa

395 - uses rotor from X5M

There is a thread in this forum dedicated to showing you how to upgrade front and rear from other BMW without brackets.

Very good info, so 395mm x5m rotors would work with the pad in the larger caliper ?
