anyone w/ michelin pilot sport a/s 4 vs primacy?

Going from RFT to non-RFT here. I'm looking for a big difference in comfort.

Love Michelin in past, so leaning strongly to them.

Pilot Sport A/S 4 is of course "high performance" category, and Primacy is "grand touring"

It is a longshot asking for someone with experience on both, but what the heck....

I like the idea of Pilot Sports having measurably best performance in braking, turning, wet. If they give a comfortable and not noisy ride, they are my ideal.

If Pilot Sports are not very forgiving, and much harder over bumps and considerably noisier than Primacy, then i prefer Primacy. As i have to have sufficient comfort. The latest model i guess they call Primacy Tour A/S.

appreciate any advice

Thanks

I have ran both and I can tell you the pilot sports are way better especially because they are not run flats. The primacys are good but you will be satisfied with the pilot sports

Thanks much for your response. So to confirm, you drove and are recommending Pilot Sport *ALL SEASONs*, right?

If comfort and noise isn't too much different than Primacy, i definitely want to get the better performance of the PS's.

Thanks for confirming.

I have the Pilot Sport All Seasons on my 535 and even with the M Performance suspension it is very comfortable. I don't think I'd want to go softer myself.

I have the A/S4. They definitely have a low hum, but nothing obtrusive.

Subscribed. Considering the AS4 for my next tire, even though I've still got a couple years on my current Indy 500's. The Firestones are not bad comfort wise, but not quite as silent as I'd like them to be.

Unspec, on a car like the 5 Series I'd expect a touring tire to be just about silent. At some speed does the tire noise get drowned out by wind noise, or is it always apparent?

Nice! Looking forward to your feedback!

I'd like to know what sizes you have, which wheels they're mounted on, and a few pics showing the sidewall profile as well if you have time.

I've been through 5 set of 4S and 3 set of AS4. They are very similar. 4S may be a tad bit more rough over bumps. As they wear down to about 3/10", they both are pretty bumpy and noisy. The rear last about 40K hwy miles. Front probably can last 100K but I always change the whole set.

I recently put a set of Pilot Sport 5's onto mine and love them. Great grip in both wet & dry.

How do you find the steering response between the two? Noise level when new-ish? Interesting you feel the 4S might be less harsh over bumps… I assumed the opposite would be true.

Are you planning to stick with these tires, or have you tried something else you like?

Steering response is about the same for both. 4S might have a tiny advantage over AS4 in the dry but it's really hard to measure. With 4S, the vehicle is a little tail happy in the rain when the tires are worn out in the rear. AS4 still grip well even at 3/10". I take the same 140 miles route each day so I have experienced all rain condition with both tires on the highway where hydroplane will most likely happen if tires are bald.

I meant 4S is more harsh over bumps. Glad you caught your typo!

I run 4S on all of my vehicles but discount tire said it's discontinued so I jumped into A4S.

Thx for the info. I'm leaning towards the AS4 even more now. I have to keep reminding myself this is a daily driver.

The AS4 isn't a touring tire, but I only ever notice it when I SPECIFICALLY listen for it. Normally my tunes drown it out. Not blasting the music either, I can easily have a conversation over the music, to give you an idea of what volume I listen at.

Pleased with my AS4 tires so far. No concern with tire noise, road imperfections are cushioned, and handling seems fine. I had left Michelin once for a different brand as it was "highly rated" tire online, and regretted it. Was not as comfortable. Being stuck with a harder tire for years is a drag. Sticking with Michelins.
