Sports seats - any problems?

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
I have electric sports seats without the adjustable lumbar support in my F11 and am finding that they seem to aggravate my lower back on a longer journey. I have been having more back ache in general recently, so not sure if the seats are causing it or just showing up what is already a problem.

I have reduced the ache it by tilting the seat base up at the front more than I usually would, but its still there.

Is anyone else having any problems with these seats? I am wishing I ordered the adjustable lumbar support option now - it feels like the fixed height of the curve of the backrest support is too far up my back and maybe too pronounced.

Hmm maybe it's me then, or perhaps the seats need a little more breaking in: my car has only done 600 miles so far. Any other views on the seats?

It is true that the lumbar isn't so good as compared with earlier BMW's, and if you have the adjustable backrest the "break point" actually has a line which initially bothered my back.

I got used to it over time (3 months).

I have the standard seats, but with electric lumbar support, in my E61 525d. The lumbar support is just useless and I always try to deflate it as much as possible to get rid of it.

Thus, I did not order any lumbar support for my f11 520d. I will have to see if I find the sports seats to be ok without it. Wasn't a problem when I test drove anyway.

Yes, that's what I thought when I test drove a car with sports seats, but in practice I would like to lower the height of the lumbar support or increase the amount of support of the lower back. We'll see if i get used to it over time

The F10 523i, sports seat and comfort seat

Hi, folks:

I've ordered the sports seats, do you think it is better comapre to the comfort seats? What is the major differences also compares to the normal seats?

Thanks, guys.

I believe the SPORT seats are the same as the comfort seats with the addition of the adjustable lateral support. 20 way adjustable instead of 18 way with the comfort.

I can't find any reference in the BMW literature for the F10 5 series for "sport seats" or "comfort seats". What seems to be offered is "Multi-Contour" seats with 18-way adjustment, either as a stand-alone option or as part of the Sport Package or the M-Sport Package.

If you were able to order something different, called "sport seats," you might post more of the details. There has been a great deal of wailing and gnashing of teeth here over the deletion of the side-bolster adjustment on the premium seats, something that still comes even on the 3-series sport seats as far as I'm aware.

In Europe I believe the multitcontour is the same os the comfort seats. Sport seats are the desired 20 way seats withe the side bolster adjustment. You can order them for F10 in Europe but not her in the US.

My AUC E92 didn't have lumbar supports in the sports seats and, being prone to lower back pain, it was something I missed.
My F10 has comfort seats + lumbar support and they're the best I've come across in 45 years of driving.
On long journeys whenever I start to feel any lower back discomfort, I just give the support a tweak in/out, up/down and it's gone in an instant - one of the best features of the car.

On most European markets we have three different seats:

- Standard seats (part electric, part manual adjustment)
- Sport seats (adjustable thigh support and passive side bolsters)
- Comfort seats (20-way electric seats with adjustable side bolsters, memory etc.)

Full electric adjustment with memory, and in addition electric lumbar support, can be ordered for the standard and sports seats.

My F10 has standard seats without lumbar support. I also feel lower back ache after 3-hour driving. I don't know if comfort seats will make a difference.

I don't understand why BMW would eliminate the side bolsters here in the States but still offer it in other markets. Its a great feature especially if your driving on winding roads or taking ramps very quick I love it on my car can't imagine not having it in the future. I hope BMW reconsiders this decision.

Agreed, especially since the same seats in the Seven have the adjustable bolsters. I had them on my E92 & E90 and miss them.

US F10 doesn't have the sport seats in question here.

Us F10 got two differnet seats, while at least Europe gets three differnt seats for the F10.

I'm in my UK spec F10 with the sports seats for one year this week. 17k miles down and I do four journeys per month, each of 2.5 to 3.5 hours ... no problems at all with the comfort level for me.
