Trying to decide 2015 535i or 528i
I found a 2015 535i and a 2015 528i I like. The 535 is a little over $5k more. $35k vs. $29.8k. They are both loaded. Msport, Lighting Package, Driver Asistance Package, Premium Package, and Aerodynamic Kit. The 535i has about 33k miles and the 528i has about 24k miles. I know the 535 has the 6 cylinder and thus more power. But other than that, the vehicles look identical. Right Down to the color. They are both CPO BMW cars.
Car Gurus say the 535i is about $2,900 above market, even though it was already reduced by $2k, and says the $528i is about $750 above market. I really want the extra power of the 535, but don't think it's worth the $5k + premium. Can you really feel the difference in the power of the 535? I've driven the 528 but not the 535. What do you guys think? Should I wait till the new year when the cars will technically be another year older and the dealers have to drop the prices even more? I have the Links to the cars below... https://www.centerbmw.com/certified/...7b3e3b6560.htm https://www.southbaybmw.com/certifie...7bb070a71a.htm Last edited by Borracho; 12-12-2018 at 11:12 PM.. If you get the 4-banger you will always regret not getting the I6. You're already trying to justify the 4. The mpg difference is also negligible real-world.

There is a little $5k difference in price too. I drove the 528i and it was a nice vehicle. Had all the bells and whistles too. But I have been told to get the 535i if I can. Especially if I drive a lot of interstate miles. Which I do. thx...

so you want to compare a 4 banger diesel to an inline 6 turbo? okay my friend. I say do more research than before you make your decision.

If you're trying to add a flash tune or have any other fun with the car, 535 all the way...but to add tune and some aftermarket bolt ons, that'll be another $1k or maybe $2k by the time you finish playing around....if your budget is super tight you should be aware that'd likely make the 535 $6-7k more overall

BMW rests its industry-standard reputation largely on its engines and driving dynamics. As should you.
Also, the 18" m-sport wheels always looked dramatically undersized to me. Best of luck.

I would go drive the 535i and keep searching. The I4 is not the most reliable engine, if ever you decide to go with it cut the oil change intervals by half of what BMW recommends... the engine failure rate is a lot highier than the N55.

I picked up a 2015 535i xDrive Luxury Line about 6 months ago. I went into the purchase with a certain set of priorities. You should decided what yours are.
Mine were: 1 buy a luxury sports car for the first time, now that I can afford one. 2 must be AWD cuz I live in Michigan 3 buy something that is an absolute joy to drive 4 try to get something as reliable as possible to keep TCO down, as I'm new to being able to afford this. 5. aim for 300hp to balance power and fuel economy. I looked at a few cars. Then I drove the 535i xDrive. There was no turning back. It easily checked the first 3 boxes, as well as box 5, and number 3 hands down over anything else I drove. Consumers reports and research on boards like this checked box 4. 2015 was a great year for the i6 and the car in general. I'm six months in and couldn't be happier. Having said that, I've been shopping for winter tires, and decided to get winter wheels as well so I can switch back and forth myself. This manifested into a dream I had where I decided to just get a winter car. Actually, I turned my 535 into my winter car and got a 550 for my summer car. :-) I would have loved the 8 cylinder, but between the fuel costs and the repair costs, I'm sure I would have regretted it. But my subconscious doesn't want to admit that yet. |

I'd definitely recommend the 535i over the 528i. Not only is the power worth it but the resale value of it when it comes to sell/trade it in will be more.

That's what I've read too. I had the four banger in a 328i. It ran pretty well. Not sure how long I'll keep the 5 series. Depends how much I like it. In 3 years the electronics are going to be fabulous. Even in BMW's. :-)

Yes, I did. And the service plan. Basically, hoping to not pay for anything but the car payment and tires for the next 5 years. We will see.
