Reverse Light under 12 volts

Hi,

I’ve recently tried adding an aftermarket reverse camera to my 2011 F10 and I found out that both my reverse lights wires are under 12v. They both read around 11.85 - 11.97 and the camera needs at least 12 volts to turn on.

Could this be because of the incandescent light bulbs? Will LEDs use less power?

If you are doing the iDrive integrated aftermarket reverse kit it, the camera wiring will bundle the 12V power wire with the RCA wire which goes to your dashboard. The kit should include a MMI box with its own harness to tap into the car and one wire will be labeled for camera power to trigger it on when you select reverse.
