N63 MAF code 102302

I'm getting MAF error 102302 at full throttle, but only at higher speeds & gears when more time is spent at those higher RPMs.

Basically anything over 4th gear (4th is 50/50).

Car throws iDrive malfunction, doesn't leave a CEL, but does log this code:

102302: hot film air mass meter, operating range: period duration too low, air mass too high

Replaced the whole PCV system due to some leaks, no change.
I tightened the boot that connects the PA side airbox to the turbo inlet pipe, no change.

MAF sensor is fine because I switched them and the code still stays on bank 1 (PA side).

Any ideas?

I would check all the intake connections and turbo inlet again. I had this fault a few years ago when a coupler after the MAF sensor came apart (fault of working on car late at night into the AM hours). I would start there, visually inspect every connection.

Stock intake or aftermarket? If A/M, what brand/model?

I know you said you tightened the turbo inlet pipe, is it still tight or is it loose again after running for a minute?

hey thanks for the reply! stock intake

what connections should I be looking for?
- swapping MAFs didn't resolve
- bank 1 turbo inlet seems ok but sounds like I should check again
- bank 1 PCV & whatnot seems ok
what else is there beside the above?

It’s a little blurry when I DL it so I can’t see exactly but I was looking to see if the clip is facing down.

But as far as connections I had issues with the main coupler/boot that connected the turbo inlet to the airbox. I know as they get older they start to fall apart at the tabs, any tears or major wear on that boot? Airbox is nice and tight? The air filter in the airbox looks okay?

The service plan says to check wiring connections, test the wires or replace the sensor. Since you switched them it could be an issue with the wiring. Have you checked the wires, any cuts or nicks? Have you tried a brush or used canned air on the plugs disconnected (with the battery disconnected ofc)

Fault Service Plan
‐ Visual inspection of plug-in contacts (components and DME)
‐ Measure sensor cable, power supply and ground (loose contact!)
- Replace sensor

NP at all. I dig into my old photos before I installed my intakes, this is how the MAF clip should face pointing downward on bank 1. Good luck and let us know if you come across a fix.🤞🏽

thanks sir - my connectors are oriented correctly.. I'll disconnect battery & air can them out. Is there any brushing/cleaning that I should attempt?

Just a small brush of any sort, I’m kind of grasping at straws here but based on the info from the service plan it’s worth checking to just be sure.

Hey, either the shop that replaced my PCV, or my buddy who built this low mileage motor up for me wore down the teeth on the intake manifold where the lower PCV connects.

My issue is, especially because of tune & higher boost than normal, an air leak where the PCV connects to the passenger side intake manifold.

This is why it only happens in higher gears/speeds when at WOT, boost has more time to build high.

Once it leaks, MAF says "this air volume ain't right" - drivetrain malfunction

it's a huge job to replace the manifold, so basically I'm just keeping it under 6000rpm for now

So when you say where the lower PCV connects to intake manifold, are you talking about the longer PCV coming from down below/on the side of the block, going to the side of the turbo inlet? I do have 2 broken tabs on the clip, but it still clips and looks tight.
