iPhone Siri BMW Integration Coming Soon - Screen Sharing Soon?
Today at the WWDC Apple announced their intentions to "integrate Siri even better in the car" and BMW was one of the advertised logos for this proposed update. I wanted to start this thread not only to inform those that don't follow Apple news - but to keep the info in one place so we can work on retrofitting/coding the changes necessary making sure that us early F10 adopters don't get left behind by what could be a fantastic combination of technology.
Imagine if you could get your iPhone screen to show on the CID...with the new turn-by-turn navigation and native voice activation built into Apple's upcoming iOS6 Map app - who needs FSC's? Here is an article spelling out the basics: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=704041 Last edited by Tuesday; 06-11-2012 at 07:33 PM.. Reason: Wrong link |

You raise an excellent point. During the Apple Keynote speech today, the Apple CEO specifically showed usage of Siri in an F10.
Here is the official response to the speech from BMW of North America: “BMW has been on the forefront of both in-car voice command as well as the integration of smartphones such as the Apple iPhone,” said Dave Buckho, BMWNA spokesperson. “The integration of Siri using the BMW voice command steering wheel controls is a logical next step. Apple’s new Eyes Free mode enables drivers to use Siri to interact with their iPhone by voice even in the car . Users can not only make a call but also tune in to their favorite music, send a text message, create reminders, set alarms or create events without ever having to look for their phone. BMW is planning to have Siri integration available by mid-2013.” Here is my question for all of you - how would BMW introduce Siri integration in "mid-2013" in the F10? That would be in the middle/end of the production cycle for the F10. Could it be via a software update? Has BMW ever issued a software update to iDrive that users can download? I would imagine that the hardware would not really need to change (there is already the voice recognition button). Thoughts? |

I am sure we need new cars. My guess it will be in the July production.

If that is the case, then something is terribly wrong in the automotive industry... I would assume that Siri integration would require only software changes, and not a new comms system with a car wrapped around it!
