Must've taken huge b@llz because one undoubtedly has to actually steer the car slightly into the wall while flooring the gas pedal - and yet still do it gently enough to avoid ripping off the right front tire and wheel. The wall held him in just like in a video game as the commentators said. You get bet his opponent wasn't expecting that move. Deserves to have won for sure. Probably couldn't do that in a fairly fragile Indy Car or F1 car....

It was amazing to watch. Data from Chastain’s car reveals that its peak speed through Turns 3 and 4 on the last lap was 50 mph faster than a normal lap.
“It’s sinking in the we did something that no one else has ever done,” Chastain said of his last-lap, rim-riding run.

It's hilarious to see, almost looks like he is in "fast motion" going by everyone that fast. He also set a new track record believe it or not, 18.945 down to 18.845. The incar camera is even crazier than the aerial, he grabs another gear going into T3 and keeps his right foot planted all the way around.

Kyle "Hard R" Larson said it was "not a good look" and was "embarrassing," what a loser. He tried the same thing in a truck race a while ago and it didn't work out for him.

I think Logano had the most reasonable take on it.

Oh yeah, definitely not happening on an open wheel car. I'm rooting for Ross after this.

WOW thanks for posting that clip. Around the 20s mark Ross has a decision to make.. So he does not turn down towards the apron. Instead of setting the car with left foot braking at turn in he snatches top gear and floors it while steering into the wall. Then, if you look towards the left side of the frame, you can see him zooming past the other cars down on the apron (through his left corner windshield). He has more distance to cover on the rim line and scrubbing the wall, but while the others are off throttle or at partial throttle, Ross is wide open the motor is screaming. Holy cow I wonder if NASCAR will have something to say about rim riding or ban it. It's like he was shot out of a cannon. A new lap record. Hilarious. Helluva' memorable racing move.. It's NASCAR's version of passing in the grass..

I think they're going to ban it especially with how unsafe this generation of cars are. One of the best NASCAR moments of all time.

10th to 5th in last two corners.

Didn't even look real when I first saw it.

Might be the craziest thing I have seen in all motorsports. Genius.

I’m not a Chastain fan yet. But I have to applaud the creativity and execution. The result was amazing. Just like my slot car track as a kid - the outside lane in a turn with a fence was always the quicker lane

Interesting the people complaining about it, as if being creative is something new and needs to be outlawed. This type of creativity isn't new, if you remember Alex Zanardi creating a new line at the Corkscrew to pass Bryan Herta way back when. For years we talked about "the pass".

Every angle of Ross' now historic rim rider move is captured in the video linked below. The spectacular fun starts about the 1:27 mark where Ross' car rockets past the other race cars at wide open throttle being held in by the wall. Various clips from the public are included in this video. Ross' rim riding move maybe the only time we ever get to see it done if NASCAR bans the tactic. Amazing driving spectacle. Enjoy.

Ross is exactly the type of driver to actually have the balls to try this move. He also took Hamlin out of the finals, they hate each other.

This video linked below is posted on NASCAR's official YT channel. It seems NASCAR are celebrating Ross' spectacular rim riding stunt in their own sort of way. Since losing many fans over the years, NASCAR is still struggling to bring new fans i.e. the younger demographic into the stands. Video game driving stunts might be one way to do that.. Just sayin'.. Has anyone heard anything about a NSACAR ban or penalty? Ross actually says over the radio "there's nothing in the rule book that says I can't". I don't know if he makes that comment before steering into the wall slightly, slamming top gear and pinning the throttle. But whatever the case it worked... Every time I watch the footage it looks fake -> BUT it's not!
