Painting the silver bumper trim (pre-LCI, non-M-Sport)

Hey,

I am thinking about spray painting the silver bumper trims on my F11 and I was wondering, you people who have done it, what paint did you use? Just regular (matte)black spray paint? Or automotive spray paint? How about sanding? Is it required?

TLDR:
- What spray paint?
- Sanding required?

Thanks!

Prep is everything!!! You'll want a plastic paint or at the very least one with a flex-agent. YouTube is your friend here. I would watch as many as you can stand before starting the job. You'll want to rough-up the surface some to give the paint (primer) something to stick to. I've successfully used Rust-Oleum for plastic. Flat (matte), semi-gloss or glossy is entirely up to your prefrence.

What does this "flex-agent" mean exactly?

Plastic is bendable, steel isn't, so using a flex agent( exactly how it sounds, helps it flex without cracking paint) is what you always want to use with plastic.

It can also be called Adhesion Promoter I believe made by SEM. Check out paintscratch.com, they have some good info on there. Painting the inserts might be a fun, low-risk project to get you started in painting! A lot of these paint vendors will also sell you the base coat of the specific BMW color code so you can do body-matched trim and such.
