Currently, Dinan, Eisenmann, SuperSprint, and Remus have exhaust components for our cars. You could also consult with a local tuner or exhaust shop to see if a system can be fabricated for you that utilizes high-flow mufflers to replace the stock units.

I got an Eisenmann Race installed and it is the best mod I've done with the car. Some have tried to use stock systems or have local shops add custom exhausts with varied outcomes to include alot of drone amongst some and a little better results from others.
My advice...listen to a few of them 1st and figure out from there which one fits your needs. GL

This is a purely a subjective item. What sounds great on the outside is usually completely different on the inside. I had a truck in my early 20's and at that time Flowmaster was the hot item in performance mufflers. I got in the truck and loved the vroom, vroom sound, but after about 20 minutes on the freeway at cruising speed I quickly fell out of love, but when I got on it, it was awesome. It was a love-hate relationship.
I've read about guys spending over $3000 on an exhaust system to only say it drones a little bit. For that price it should not drone at all. For the money, Corsa makes an awesome exhaust, I had one on my Z06 Vette, as well as my Chevy 3/4 ton pick up. It does what it says - It's quiet at cruise, but when you get on it, look out! The unfortunate thing is they don't make a muffler set-up for the F-10's. I've written them and they have said that there hasn't been enough demand for BMW's in the past so they are not doing any R&D on the latest generation. I told them that they are missing a great opportunity as the BMW owners who modify their cars is a growing group. I'm in the same boat as you, I want better sound from my 550, but don't want to spend big bucks on something that only adds sound and no performance value. Whatever you do, good luck. |

Interesting this came up, I was just going to write the same question.
I have read that there is a vacuum hose on the stock exhaust that can be undone to produce a deeper note / rumble. I remember a friends 09 X6 w. only dinan stage 1 - it roared. Why / how is my Stage 2 550I so quiet? |

Exhaust cut out on 550
I have delema. Coming for m3 m5 with full custom exhaust set ups don't want to worry about getting pulled over for loud exhaust any more. I want put exhaust cut outs on the car. Help decide what to buy? What is the size of the exhaust on 550? Where to install them? And so on. Any suggestions.

I'd consider the same. There are remote valves installed on our exhausts, but where is best? (location on the exhaust)
Basically this valve opens and all the exhaust pours out like this short of the mufflers. Not sure i want my sound/ exhaust coming out the middle of the exhaust. http://f10.5post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=411485 |

Eisenmann is great. Love my Race version. Definitely adds to the car and completes the exhaust.
Meisterschaft is awesome I've heard and all the clips I've seen do give you a definitely louder exhaust. Remote valves you can control add to the pluses it gives. Noone I've heard has regretted either one. Those are the two choices my friend for your 550i! Can't go wrong with either one. GL

Eisenmann Race drones if you drive in the comfort mode. 99% of the time I drive in sport+ and there's almost no drone. I personally like the way it sounds in sport+ mode.

Not much drone in Comfort mode but some. But like this poster says I drive mine in Sport mode 90% of the time and Sport+ the other 10% and in Sport transmission as well. Only time I am in Comfort mode is usually when on the highway on a long haul. Best investment in the car other than the Dinan Stage 2 software IMHO.
