My 528i says it’s oil needs to be changed more often than every 10000 miles
I have a question I hope some one can help me with it. I have a 2015 528i F10 N20 Turbocharged.
I hear oil Changes should be done every 10,000 miles from the manual, the dealership, read in the oil liter bottles, and forums. However, my cars computer (Dash display) will prompt me for an oil change way before I ever reach 10,000 miles. The question is whom do I listen to the cars prompt to change the oil early or everything and everyone telling me it should be every 10,000 miles? I just got the car, a CPO, from BMW. In less than 3 months and less than 5,000 miles; after being told I had 10,000 miles to go before an oil change was needed. My cars computer began warming me I had reach the 10,000 miles and needed an oil change. I went ahead and changed the oil. I put in Liquimoly 10w40 LL1 as stated in the manual and have now driven less than 1,000 miles and i am again already getting a prompt telling me I have 7,000 miles until my next oil change. Way before my actual driven distance since the last oil change. I will be sending this next oil change to Blackstone to find out for my self if my cars oil algorithm analysis is a gimmick or the real deal? Or is the oil sensor malfunctioning? Any one with some helpful advice would be greatly appreciated. Respectfully SC Last edited by scorrea00; 10-01-2018 at 12:43 AM.. |

Oil analysis sounds like a good idea.
Many would change the oil more often anyway, so 7,000 miles sounds OK. Looks like you are using your own oil so you probably don't have the car before complimentary oil changes end. The oil change is often given to an employee that is not as well honed. I have a lot of experience with dealer oil changes and like to do it myself. No doubt about it, you would be better acquainted with your car! LiquiMoly would not be my first choice for engine oil. I trust Shell, Chevron, Mobil-1, Valvoline, Pennzoil, and Amsoil from my experience, but a lot of opinions on oil exist. I also trust the branded oil filters like Mann and use a topsider to suck the most oil out of my car without needing to remove any engine shield or use any ramps - you may not have a dipstick to do this with though. It's the real deal, it has been done, though most like changing it early.
Question is, how do you know it is wrong if you have only had the car for 3 and less than 5k miles? |

Did you reset the oil service interval? The oil sensor has the ability to monitor oil conductivity as a way to determine oil quality and it may reduce the oil service interval based on that.

As far as I know , these cars have an onboard system that inspects the breakdown of the oil and thus recommends oil changes at appropriate times.
Meaning, if you have a heavy foot it will prompt you for an oil change more often than someone who babies their car.
