F10 550i (2) Different Downpipes?!?!?!
Hello Everyone,
So I have purchased some downpipes for my 550i, it's Dinan Stage 3.. And I noticed after recieving the wrong downpipes, that there are 2 different types? I've searched for HOURS, looking to see why BMW has made 2 different types of downpipes (OEM) and can't find any research on it. To start off, my 550i is 2011.. Now, my stock downpipes (With catalytic converter) do not have a 2 bolt flange at the bottom, they slide into the midpipe under the car. OEM part number (18327645441, 18327645440) Pic is for example: The downpipes i've ordered.. Have a 2 bolt flange, now i was curious to see if this was a (year) problem, and it was my mistake, or if bmw has made changes mid year etc. OEM part number (18327645235, 18327645234) Pic is for example: When you look at downpipes online, from various venders, they either have a set with the flange, or a set without the flange, but no description to anything about it. I'll order the correct ones, however I'm now just curious on why the change. Can anyone please explain?? Thanks, -Steven

I believe 550s production date before 3/11 use the flanges, my 11 550i uses the flanges since it was a late 2010 build.

Starting 04/11 Production Date BMW started using the slip on downpipes. However, some 04/11 Prod Date 550's still have flange style so it's best to check your downpipe connection underneath if your production date is in the month of 04/11. Anything after that uses the slip on.
