Why long wheelbase only in china??
http://rumors.automobilemag.com/2011...rket-3679.html
article on how the chinese market gets a longer wheelbase 5 series, also they just got a longer wheelbase 3 series. Why is this only in China? I would like it if it would be available in North America too. Any one know why?

Most Chinese with these types of cars have a driver to drive them around, so they want large rear room.
Demand outside China is too small so these are produced in China for China only.

I agree with E90Fleet, there's a need of smaller long wheel base cars in China. Their roads are narrow, and people who can afford a 5 series can afford a driver. In the U.S., just get a 750LI or 6 Series Grand Coupe if you need longer leg rooms. Most LI drivers in the U.S sits on the driver seat, which makes no sense. Your kids don't need the leg room and champagne fridge. Hell, if their legs are long enough to require you to buy an LI model they should drive you around instead. lmfao wow. I'd like to buy a 535li more room in back. Don't need a 7 series cause its too big so a 5 series li would be great

It was started by Audi in China for that market. BMW had to follow suit.

Long Wheelbase Infiniti M Debuts in Beijing
Since long wheelbase models are very appreciated in China, it was a no-brainer for Infiniti to launch the long wheelbase version of its M in Beijing. It will go on sale in China starting in June and will be available with two engine options. The M Long Wheelbase features a 3.5-liter V6 mated to an electric motor in the M35hL, giving out a total power output of 360 hp. The lesser powered version is the M25L. It gets its power from a 2.5-liter V6 with 232 hp. The car gets 5.9 inches (14.3 cm) of extra length, translating into improved knee room for the demanding Chinese businessman who likes to be chauffeured around rather than take the wheel himself. With the Chinese car market expanding at an ever increasing rate, the M Long Wheelbase will definitely make an impact on the luxury car market despite the fact that it still can't match its European rivals just yet |
