Rusted nut under the driver seat

Sorry for the x-post from the 3-series... One thing bothers me about my ride is that rusty nut as seen in the pic below. Can I take it off safely so that I can remove rust or does it require any special handling? Thank you!

I would just shoot something like PB Blaster on it and "wash" off the rust. That's just surface rust anyway. You can always just replace the nut. If this bothers you, by all means DON'T look behind the dash!

Did not bother taking it out. Household vinegar + toothbrush + lubricant.
