JB4 Stage 2 Installed on f10 535i, word of caution

Hey guys,

It's my first post here but I've been scouring these forums ever since I bought my F10 535. I felt compelled to write this up so anyone out there with an F10 535 doesn't have the same issue. I recently bought and had installed the JB4 and a VRSF downpipe on my car. When I ordered the JB4 I opted out of ordering the usb cable because I wasn't going to do any dyno readings and it was listed as optional. Once my mechanic installed the tune and the pipe, we were unable to change the maps via the BC button, the mechanic checked all the connections again and again but still there was no sign of life from the JB4. Finally, after researching it more, he found out that in the F10, the tune comes preset to map 1 and in order to activate the BC button you need to hook up the USB cable and enable the option to change the maps. I was a little upset because there wasn't a single note of that on the ordering page and now I would have to wait a few more days to receive the cable plus the extra expense. I emailed BMS and luckily Ando got back to me within a few minutes and said I could pick up the cable in person at their warehouse so I went there the same day. The mechanic hooked it up and now all is good. For anyone who's getting the JB4 for their F10, the usb cable or the bluetooth connection is not optional, its mandatory!

I gotta say, the change in performance with the tune and the downpipe is awesome, it is significantly quicker and more responsive. I'm using map 5 since the highest octane grade we have here is 91. I was expecting a little more noise from the downpipe though, it is louder on cold start but when its warm at idle it sounds like stock. Next upgrade is an exhaust and charge pipe. Just gotta decide between Remus, Dinan or M performance.

Coming from a Mercedes E class, I'm thoroughly loving and enjoying my 535, especially now with these mods.

I did go catless downpipe. First of all, the catted down pipe was almost triple in price, second of all, all my friends with modded bmw's cautioned against catted downpipes. I guess the power gained is negligible with a catted downpipe and you still run the risk of failing a smog check. Taking all of that in consideration, I just went with a catless one. Honestly, I'm loving the sound and the power, I'm sure most of the power is from the jb4 but still the sound is very nice from the downpipe. You can hear the turbo spools and at cold start it sounds like you have an exhaust. You can hear the crackles if you press the gas. You do get a noticeable exhaust smell if you have your windows down though when you come to a stop. As far as emissions, I'll just have to "deal with it"

Do you have a CEL? I've been thinking of this but fear the CARB; and I'm still under warranty for the next couple of years.

Do you know if you have rev 4 or rev 1 board and are you running on stock everything except jb4 and downpipe?

Let's hope when I go install my catless downpipe no cel error will come up lol.

Not sure about the rev, I'll take a look at the box. Besides the tune and the downpipe, car is stock for now.

Rev 4 is the updated jb4 board. Previously people were having draining battery problem. Do you know where you connect your power source for the jb4? Was it a switch or constant power source?

Then I must have the updated version. The mechanic said there was no need to tap in for power. It gets its power from the tpms plug.

JB4 uses the fuel gauge in the dash as a boost gauge...
You can shut it off or leave it on..

The way it works is after 50% throttle the fuel gauge turns into a boost gauge..
Good way to keep an eye on if your car is running 100%

On our N55 i believe the scaling is setup as
Full tank 18psi
Half tank 9
Empty tank is 0
