I think it depends on the color of your car. Mine is Carbon Black and I like the look better with the chrome surround and black slats. I wetsanded off the chrome on the slats and love the look... Basically the 12-13 M5 look. Since they are just plastic it holds up much better to rock damage too. We have the full gloss black on our black sapphire 335 and that looks good.

Incredible work! 8 years later, and I just sanded mine. Didn't want to get double slats (mine is only a 520d! Perfect for me, I'm an old man at heart and just want the mpg for my 20k miles a year..)
