Rear Suspension Creek

Hi all,

I have a 2011 535xdrive. My back left suspension makes a loud creeking and rocking noise after going over speed bumps or anything at low speeds and I don’t hear this on the highway. I believe this will require new shock strut assembly. I linked one to this.

Does anyone know:
1. That is workable option to fix my issue?

Shock strut Assembly

2. How long this job would take or a video that they used?

Thank you so much!

I found the job to be easy enough. The main thing to be aware of is that the suspension arm will swing UP as this is its normal position. You'll need to find something to hold that down for you to slide the strut assembly in. Some used breaker bars, some used a second person to stand on the rotor, I used a 3300lb ratcheting strap. The force to hold down those arms is not trivial.

For those going the full route, this type of compressor is perfect for the task.

Take the wheel off to see what is going on. Probably broken coil spring?

I personally stay away from such assemblies. Check FCP Euro. You could buy OE parts for very reasonable price.

Hey so I just took the wheel off and realized this strut looks nothing like any of the videos. It seems to be an EDC one. Does anyone have experience with how to remove this or what I should do next? I assume I can’t replace it with a normal one. And I believe the issue is just the spring in the last photo. Thanks again 😭

Looks like that's definitely the problem. There are still some whys to be answered though.
As for removal, I think you just unplug the wiring... trace it to a small junction box and there should be a plug. Guessing on that though as I've never done it.

That spring is toast. Get a new spring, top and bottom isolators and a new top hat bushing.

That is your suspension problem. That coil spring is broken and shock/ strut body is very rusty
