Great looking 550 where did you get bumper from and how much did it cost how about figment issues?

El Jeffe thanks man! The bumper was a purchase made off EBay through a company called Europartsstore. They specialize in aftermarket car mods/fitments. Spent about $650 for the new bumper and fog lights and $500 to get it painted by my dealerships body shop. Fitment was what they called "direct plug and play" pull the old off and this one bots right into place. Just have to make sure the PDC sensors are FLUSH with the bumper when it's all finished or you will get a "Park Distance Control malfunction".

What’s your fuel range on your 550? Cheers!

Nice write up. Glad to hear from a long term owner that did not have to replace the engine. I have had my 2011 550i xdrive for 2 months. Reading the treads make me hyper vigilant about owning the car.

Mike, I could not be HAPPIER to see your pics as I have the same space gray color 2011 550i and have been contemplating the Agency Power vented hood. It's fantastic to see yours in the same color as mine would be, and I like the profile it has in our color. Thank you very much for posting that!

In other news, did you have your valve stem seals replaced, and if so, at what mileage?

Simon, I average about 21 MPG both city and highway. I get about 380 miles on a full tank which gets me where I need to go even though I throw it into sport and drive it hard on a regularly consistent basis.

Fro, I appreciate the compliment! I was worried when I switched to the vented hood that I would have to worry about rain water, corrosion, snow, salt but to be completely honest my engine bay is always clean aside from a few leaves here and there. When it rains, the vents on the side make it difficult for water to get into there. It is awesome to pull up to a light and see the heat pouring out of those vents, everybody that I have come across has complimented me on how tasteful an upgrade it is to the car's original styling and yes, space grey is an amazing color, we both chose VERY well! Haven't had the valve stem seals replaced yet, knock on wood the car has been mechanically sound for the past 30,000 miles aside from a few O2 sensors triggering a "check engine" light. I am convinced that with the proper maintenance schedule and the ability to exercise the cars limits from time to time, it is one of the most rewarding ownership experiences.

Hey Perry, the last sentence to my response to Fro is also for you!

Ha! yeah, I had the same thought about rain getting in, then again the components under those vents are running at what, like 2600 deg F (lol!), so any water would just instantly turn to steam. ha!

I've read of some owners of vehicles with N63 that have your kind of mileage and never had an issue, then others like me that had a new engine put in at 77k. I bought another 2011 550i with 50K on it in March this year. Within 1200 miles of me owning it it was gobbling oil (likely why it was traded in) and I had the seals replaced on it then sold it (no cost to me on the seals due to the N63 campaign). I only sold it because I decided to keep my 6-speed manual 550i instead.

Anyway, it just seems to be hit-and-miss with the N63 issues. I do believe that if you drive it like a gramma, you will have more issues than if its stomped on somewhat regularly.

In other news, I can fully recommend putting the M5 exhaust on it. I have no tune and stock intake at this point, but adding the M5 exhaust system (non-competition pkg, full system after the stock downpipes, replace resonators with straight pipe and replace stock x-pipe with full-diameter x-pipe) eliminates any turbo lag and the sound of the exhaust finally does the 550 right.

Thank you!! I have been critically searching for some type of exhaust set up so that I can have my car sound like a beast and I'm most certain like you said, the M5 exhaust does it in a classy way without it sounding like crap lol. I wanted to do the setup keeping my stock rear bumper and using the Alpina B5 exhaust tips/rear spoiler. I attached a pic below.

I had it easy, mine has the M-sport pkg so no cutting required, just had to buy the the M5 diffuser and that plastic piece that goes behind the bumper cover. Did you put those Alpina bits on your car?

No not yet, I plan to come spring time. I want to have the spoiler installed by the same people that painted and put on my hood and they're slammed this time of year. That's pretty much all I am waiting for.

My 2013 was consuming 1 qt oil every 2000 miles with 60k. BMW decided to replace the valve stems instead of new engine. Since it's zero cost to me so I went for it. This is about 3 months ago. So far so good, and I hope it will last another 60k.

About the drive it like a grandma comment, yeah it's good to keep the rev range active with these engines to keep them clean and lubricated but either way you'll run into issues earlier than you would with say a Nissan or domestic (not even going to compare to econo boxes).

Me I changed the oil every 5k miles, did the occasional Italian tuneup through backroads, took it to the track a few times, and also used it as a commuter. Ended up needing a new engine due to rod bearing failure.

Reading up on it, rod bearings tend fail due to a lack of lubrication and is usually related to over revving or being low on oil. It was strange for me since I didn't have the oil burning issues described by others and only ever needed to put a quart after 3-4k miles, and mostly in OCIs where I took the car for more spirited driving sessions.
