Purchased a 2012 535i - Recommended Services?

Recently purchased a 2012 535i with 135k. It has M , Driver assistance, Premium, Premium sound, Sport Trans, Technology, and the Apps packages.

I was also able to get a extended warranty from a reputable company I have used before.

Now I plan on getting the following services completed as soon as I take delivery: Oil change, brake fluid swap, spark plugs and transmission service (Already ordered the kit from FCP with ZF fluid).

My question is if you guys would also recommend doing the coils (indy said not needed), power steering and coolant....Or any other services you think are beneficial at this mileage.

Also, I am a bit confused on the extended/enhanced Bluetooth, was this standard on the 2012? I am not seeing it as it ever being an option on the MY2012 ordering guide.

Thank you!!

Add to the list Rear Diff fluid if RWD, or front and rear diff plus transfer case fluid if X-Drive.

Scan the car with ISTA. Check with a dealer to see if any applicable recalls have been done. Look at the age and condition of the battery.

The available Bluetooth options have morphed over the time period it has been available. Starting between Sept/Oct 2004, bluetooth was just telephony only. then around late 2010...Bluetooth music streaming (A2DP) debuted...and the available options were upgraded.

I'm not sure what "extended/enhanced Bluetooth" means to you...but you can tell what Bluetooth capabilities your car came from the factory with by decoding your VIN. See the BT & media option codes below...you can google them for more information as to what the features & capabilities of each are (if someone reading this knows if I left one out for the 2012 and CIC iDrive system...please fill-in any missing info):
  • S6FLA - USB/Audio interface
  • S6NFA - Music interface for Smartphone
  • S6NLA - Connection Bluetooth USB devices incl

BTW, if you're not familiar with any of the online VIN decoders...here's one of my favs...just type in the last 7 digits of your VIN, click the SUBMIT button, then scroll down the page to see your car's list of option codes: https://www.mdecoder.com/

I had a 2012 535i for a few years. I would expect at 135,000 miles that you would already had the repairs done on the thermostat, water pump, and a/c compressor drive belt tenisioner/idler. All 3 of those are common issues with the 2012 535i, so you should check that they have been.

I have actually been using that decoder for a while! It is great!
I have S6FLA - USB/Audio interface, S6NFA - Music interface for Smartphone and Combox.

Yup, I was thinking the same. Most will need replacement around 100k if I am not mistaken...Hoping at least the tensioner /idler and water pump/thermostat have been previously changed. I tried to get service records, as the selling and CPO dealer were the same but no luck yet.

Unless you have X-drive you don't have power steering fluid; the steering is electric.

My 2012 has both S6FLA: USBAudio interface & S6NFA: Music interface for Smartphone and I have Bluetooth audio. I think I read somewhere that "enhanced Bluetooth" was just a consolidation of a couple other options. I do know Enhanced Bluetooth can be coded.

Check Car Battery Voltage (with engine off and when idling ). Perhaps replace battery if over 5 years old?

As other mentioned definitely check coils.
They were in pretty bad shape (was getting intermittent misfires) and I replaced them on my car (got them from RockAuto) when I purchased it last year (it had 117K km - 2011 528i F10).

If you're going to shop online for parts...I would HIGHLY recommend that you FIRST look up the correct 11 digit BMW part number for you car using one of the online part databases and your car's VIN. This will help not get incorrect parts when there may have been a change during the production run and there are part number date ranges. BMW sometimes will update a part (supersede)...or have additional part numbers based on some option which you may overlook/miss by going through the back door of shopping generically for a part or the vendors search feature. By using your VIN to look up the correct part number first, this can sometime catch using a part that is correct for your model's nomenclature...but incorrect because your BMW has an option that calls for another part number.

If you're not familiar with any of the online part databases...here's 3 of my favs...feel free to save/bookmark them for future reference. Once you have the correct 11 digit BMW part number based on your VIN...then shop using that number (ie type "BMW xx xx x xxx xxx" {where x=the actual BMW part number} into a google search box or in the online vendors search box):
