Extra key fob

Wanted one to hide under the car in case I am somewhere and loose the original. A water tight box would be mandatory for sure. How many have done this?....Can someone recommend one that is decent quality and will program via the steering collum that is not real expensive?....Lots of ebay ones I see from reviews don't even work at all!

Wouldn't that leave the car very easy to steal? ESPECIALLY with comfort access. I'd imagine you wouldn't even be able to lock the car.

If it is a third fob it won't be CA anyway.
Overall a bad idea.

Yes, to close to the car!

Will scrap the idea, thanks!

In case I ever lose my keys (or have them swiped - thieves will steal keys in public places, and then come back in the middle of the night, and drive away with the only car in the parking lot), I have a BMW plastic emergency key in a magnetic key holder, hidden under the car.

The plastic key is a transponder key (like this - https://www.ebay.com/itm/Emergency-W...oAAOSwEUtZirFp), it does not have remote control functions, and has no battery, so no problem getting it wet. It's cut to enable it to open the drivers side door, and requires a holder to be able to start the car. I have the holder hidden inside the car, so even if someone was to find the hidden key, and get into the car, they wouldn't be able to drive it, unless they also found the holder.

I could close it but I feel doing so would be a victory for the thieves....

That's a better idea.

Why do you need a holder for starting? You will just need to hold it against the marked spot on the steering column where the antenna is I would think, just like a regular fob with a dead battery.

The e60 doesn't have a marked spot on the column.
The insertion of the fob does the same.
The key is for limited access, otherwise known as a valet key.
