Upgraded LPFP experiences

Hi all I'm looking into upgrading my lpfp and have read a mix of negative and positive results on other platforms. I was wondering what my fellow F10 owners have gone through so far.

I've read about:
Upgrading your fuse to 25amps
Top hat melting
Hoses exploding/popping inside the lpfp
Ekps melting
Clamps on hoses popping off
Lpfp 100% duty cycles at idle, cruising or both
People carrying the OEM lpfp on road trips just Incase

All the way to other people reporting no problems.

I am using the Fuel-It Stage 2, made no other changes and it's been working flawlessly for running Ethanol at high boost on my PS2 for over 2 years.

Nice! How new/old was your o2 sensor and ekps module when you installed the lpfp? I ask because people on other platforms people were mentioning that caused heavy duty cycles for the lpfp. After replacing the sensors their problems went away.

I'm at 89k miles now, LPFP and PS2 was installed at 72k miles, never changed an O2 or touched ekps module. Plug and play replacement and never had any issues/concerns with it. Logs look good and it behaves as it should.

I do get error message about voltage being too high for pump pressure on ekps but no problems or issues yet because of it. I bought the module just in case from eBay for same exact year and model.

Have you inspected your hardware for premature burn/melting indications?

I had to get to lpfp stage 2 few times due to fuel hose issue because I did the dyi.. but I found the correct hose so the lpfp stage 2 cost me only 130ish dollars. Did not find any issues with wires in tank but I haven't looked at the ekps module. Where is it exactly and I can try look at it over the long weekend.

I believe it's in the trunk.

AZ-MCRacer how much ethanol can you run with your lpfp? With PI I'm sure 100% but with lpfp alone what do you estimate? E50-60?

I order an Ethanol rated Walbro 450 off Amazon to replace my failing stock pump. I installed it in the stock assembly (Sept 2018) and its been chugging away with E30 mostly. No issues.

Thanks for all the responses guys. Change of plans now. I'm going to start with the overdrive kit for the hpfp since I'm rocking the older continental version.

I personally would get the EOS speed EKP. On e30 OTS i never had a problem. Wasnt until i went e40 on a custom tune was my EKPM3 giving problems. Soon as i got off the dyno. I bought 2 EKPM3 modules to keep in the trunk after the first left me stranded. Problem is that the ekpm3 module gets hot which in return heats up the wires. Currently on e58 with no problem. I was running a walboro 450 but those pumps dont like high percentages of e85 so i was starting to get fuel cut. Have the DW400 Pump now and waiting to get put in. Was going to get the new walboro 525 hellcat pump but if you look at testing from RC engineering they say the pump dies above 120psi while the DW400 keeps pumping.

Yeah that was my concern, wether it was ekps 2 or 3 I didn't want melting hardware. I also now understand that because of my year I can't code in the ekps 3. There are some comments out there that show modding the lpfp with some metal-posts to ground to that prevents melting your top hat but that doesn't solve the fuel module from overheating. I think I read somewhere that someone was considering putting a CPU fan on their fuel module.

Mission Performance informs me that the real problem is the hpfp not the low. So if I can overdrive the hpfp and run e40-60 without melting anything and gain the safety of the ecu cutting off fuel when needed then I'm going to try that route first.

$howtime456 you're running the xdi hpfp? Also you should post you're N55 putting it down on that hellcat!

Yeah i know so all in all it's 1k but not a horrible cost to get the proper fueling for 5-600whp.

Checkout how difficult it is to do the filter.

As long as I can put straight e85 than I am happy... I don't want to deal with mixtures plus from what I read straight e85 is good for 600whp which seems to be enough for stock block.

Our pump "E85" is around E54 and I run that straight. I am also running a custom Flash Map for it at that level. There is only 1 place near me that has real E85 and they are often out or inconsistent so I stick with the E54.

im making 548hp on e58. My tuner and others have said running full e85 is useless. e65 is the nice medium.

I've heard that 100 percent e85 actually makes less power and that e60 is where you want to be. Or in your case e58.

Also $howtime456 what to do you mean you can't get any runs now?
