SO you can leave your calipers on your car and just swap them out with a different pad housing. Or, you can go with this setup from Tronic who can approach both ways. Replacing Caliper or using the original caliper with different adapter.

NOW, what I DID run into is when I install M5 calipers on the rear of the car, I found the adapter BOLTS did not clear the lower suspension arm by about 3-5 mm. SO I had to grind away about 4mm x 20mm of material from the lower suspension arm where the caliper mounts. There is plenty of meat there and i did not go so deep that I was under the bolt flange head, so no structural risk, just an observation that some of us need some additional modification.

I have a write up under mikekilpatrick that discuss this issue during install

But, in summary, THIS ADAPTER KITS ROCKS! BEST QUALITY of engineering and Tronic KNOWS HIS STUFF! VERY smart guy and I would go to him for ANY kind of metal adapter needs!

Mike

Hey Mike, do you know if the 20inch m343 m5 rims will clear the m5 caliper on a 550? Seems like a straight forward answer but i want to make sure because the lci 550 doesnt allow the m343 wheel to mount without a spacer due to the differences in a lci caliper

Left Rotor 34212284103
Right Rotor 34212284104 Rear Custom Caliper Mount

MUST have at least 20 inch rims for Rotor clearance...

Install, bleed and drive. HIGHLY suggested you do front and back at same time to eliminate issues with ABS.

Now, the only thing to consider is the Electronic Parking brake on the rear, which I need to find out is adaptable to new M5 Rotors and Calipers.

Will post pics of adapters once they arrive and will build a DIY document on the install.
Did you ever make that document for installing the m5 brake calipers and rotors system? If so, can you please share it

Well i have 20 x 9 Dinan (BBS) rims on the car with no issues. Mine is an XI so i have to have all 4 rims running the same size for AWD. If you can compare the 343 rim size to a bbs 20 x9 you should see if it will fit.

Personally, I LOVE THOSE rims! I had a similar rim on my car a while back before I went to the Dinan BBS rims, which I since had painted OEM BMW silver.

I like the way it shows off the Drilled rotors on the car. Nice Choice

Hey Mike,

Do you know if the master cyclinder needs to be upgraded post m5 caliper and brake retrofit?

Its part# 34336799903 which isnt interchangeable with the 550 according to realoem. I wonder if its a direct fit

I believe you can also FDL code your DSC/ABS module to know it has the bigger brake kit. My DSC is preLCI so I may not have the most uptodate parameters but you can see the screenshot and select based on your brake size :
