F11 530d Rear Lower Control Arm

Hi there new to the forum and tried searching but nothing came up!

So my Anti roll bar link bracket has snapped off on my 2013 530d F11, the car still rides OK but unfortunately this is an MOT failure in the UK and the tester is banging on about it being REALLY dangerous every time he has mentioned it. I get it, its supposed to be there and stops the roll etc etc.

Can I have this welded for now and then when the part arrives get it fitted?

I have ordered a 2nd hand control arm, do I need all new bolts and everything refreshed on this before and during fitting?

Thanks, Dave

I would say, you're probably fine to continue driving it like that. Based on the way it looks it seems like it's broken for while, so how long have you already been driving it like that anyways? I wouldn't say it's the right thing to do but if it's your sole method of transportation to get you around you don't have too many options.

If you've ordered a replacement, I wouldn't bother having it welded. I doubt it's even possible to weld that properly and I would wonder if that would make it more unsafe with all the extra heat welding is going to put in that control arm.

If you're following the factory service manual, the majority of the suspension bolts are one time use. I doubt most workshops ever replace hardware when they perform suspension work and I've never head of failures from them being reused but again that's a decision for you/your workshop.
