Start Stop Button Replacement
Hello everyone,
Quick question for you all. I was looking into replacing my start stop button and have found many options online (amazon) and have found many install videos on YouTube however they all seem to be for the 3 series when you watch them. The videos are all labelled for the 3 series and 5 series as well as other BMW's however all the videos use a 3 series. Has anyone replaced this on here? There seems to be videos where people use a pry tool to take out the entire module and take apart and replace the button vs. a few that use a very sticky putty to simply press and pull the button off and then press the new button into its place. Has anyone attempted this? any thoughts? Thanks ahead of time. |

I took the center trim out and replaced mine. The reason for doing it that way was due to vinyl wrapping the trims. The button I got has instruction in using a strong sticky substance and pulling the old one out. If I remember correctly the button is only connected by four tabs.

I’ve done it both ways. They both work. More potential of breaking the tabs inside the housing whenusinf the putty.

I'm going to attempt this later today by way of the putty method. I will report back... hopefully I don't break the whole thing lol.

Well the sticky putty worked perfectly. Took all of about 2 seconds. I have to admit I was nervous as that is not how I would typically do things but all the comments on the YouTube video stated it was easy. Wish all mods were this easy lol. [IMG][/IMG]

I replaced mine on my 2014 F10 using the putty method and in 2 seconds voilaaaaa a red start/stop button was installed, don't get the risk of breaking tabs on the trim and try the putty method, is a very reliable method to use.

I have a 2011 w/o auto start/stop. Putty doesn't work because of the way the button is shaped. As a result, you will need to pry off the surrounding wood trim to access the housing for the start button. It's very simple, just not as easy as the putty option.

Thanks for the details, I just tried it, and noticed the eBay seller sent me the wrong style even though I bought the right style for my car. Looks like I’m gonna have to wait another few weeks for the right part..

Hi guys... need some help here..
I just replaced my old worn out button for a newer one. But to my surprise the car won’t crank afterward. Checked connections, fuses, even installed the old button just in case and no luck... I’m very confused now. The switch seems to work for accessories but it just won’t start/crank Any help will be much appreciated |
