550i Flood Victim : Next Problem -

Ok, so moving along here, I finally moved my 550i today on its OWN power! Just backed it out of my garage.

Ever couple feet, it would jump back into park.

I was told these transmissions are Sealed, so i did not check to see if water got inside. Any insight on this would be helpful

Or any other ideas as to why it goes back into park, will also go into park if i put it in gear and dont move for like a second.

**UPDATE**
It seems that it might be the car thinking my door is OPEN - Even when its closed. Anyone have any idea what sensors detect if a door is open/closed?

Vehicle Info:
2016 BMW 550i
4.4 T
Automatic

Car was in a pond for 30-45 minutes.

Thanks

Don't know about the sensor, but the trans is definitely NOT sealed. Manufacturers just use that as a "low/no maintenance" selling point. It's nothing but hype. IIIRC, ZF recommends a fluid replacement between 60K & 75K miles.

You may want to flush the trans, FCPeuro says an entire kit and ISTA will walk you through the process and there is a really great DIY on here. But you are correct about the door stopping you from being able to reverse, do you have a light showing the door is open on your cluster? Do you have any faults?

I dont have a light saying door open, but i have a warning saying "Stop the car from rolling" or something similar, same error a friend gets when his door is open. And im sure i can figure out how to drain the trans easy enough i plan to do it eventually before actually driving

And yes, i have a TON of faults left lol

I would definitely do a fluid and pan change on the transmission. Not that difficult, especially if using ISTA to walk you through it.

I believe I read the other day about someone having the same issue with the transmission going into park and not throwing an error due to a comfort access handle being bad. If you have that option, maybe find a way to bypass the sensors in the handles and try again?

Good thought, So far im thinking its the car believes the door is open when its not.

Next part im not sure of, is this a sensor in every door or just drivers

I believe each door would have a sensor that could trigger this behavior

Just had someone give it a try, seems only the drivers door caused this reaction in their vehicle
