Car is ready for pickup. The were some adaptions that needed to be cleared and now it is apparently working well. I don't know what adaptions are but that is what I was told.

"Adaptions" are software variables that are updated in the ECU memories over time that allow the car to perform as required. An example is fuel/air mix based on oxygen sensor readings, I assume transmission related adaptions may relate to style of driving data, shift points, accelerator position. The adaptions will re-write themselves during the continued operation of the car.

BMW has agreed to buy the car back today although I have not been given any details. I am hopeful that they will buy it back and also help me get in to another BMW. I have never been through a buy back before so I will try to share my experience as I go through it.

I am hopeful. I still have to find out about getting my $5,000 extended warranty and 6 prepaid oil changes refunded as I am learning that those 2 items are not tied to BMWNA, and my BMW dealership has not returned my calls about refunding that money. I did reach out to sales about stepping in to another BMW but they said that they cannot roll tge extended warranty/ oil change money over to a new car.

I think that is accurate. BMWNA seems helpful as well as the service department but I am not having any luck with the sales and finance department at my dealership. Maybe tomorrow will bring some good news.

Is there only 1 dealership in your area? Seems when there isn't much competition, dealerships tend to act dick-ish.

Was the extended warranty a BMW factory extended warranty? For that price I would assume so. If so, it should be refundable. The dealer sells it, but they have a wholesale cost they must pay to BMW as it is actually a BMW product and BMW would honor it regardless of dealership.
Edit: although I'm sorry you've had such a rough experience, congrats on getting BMW NA to take care of things in this way. In my experience owning many BMWs over the years, BMW NA has usually dealt with things in a way that supports the value of their brand. |

The dealership is in Murrieta CA, there are other dealerships within 30 miles.
The extended warranty is Hendag Inc. $5,284 7 year/ 80,000 mile warranty I received my buy back work book this morning and it includes the loan pay off + my down payment + my one finance payment..I will be making another payment on or before the 15th of March. It does not include my extended warranty or pre paid oil changes. I was able to get a hold of my dealership's finance person yesterday evening, and he said I can get my extended warranty money back if I cancel it by Saturday. I did not get an answer about my prepaid oil changes. If I agree, I am to surrender the vehicle to the dealership on March 28th |

Reading this thread from start to finish has been quite the ride. I am glad everything seems to be moving in the right direction for you. I would check out the other dealers in your area based on recommendations from local owners. Good luck, hopefully your next car buying experience wont become such as disaster.

cars can be replaced, but your time cannot be. It seems like lots of your time was wasted on this 550i.

Personally I would tell the service department that you need to speak with the owner of the dealership once the buy back is complete, make sure they are clear that over a few thousand dollars they lost your business and probably anyone reading this.
