Just a warning, the piston seals and dust boots are on massive back order. Try to preserve them if you can to use as backups, don't just go full monkey on them :P

For everyone that has done BBK mod (M5, G11, G30, etc), can you share what wheels you're on and the specs? I love the look of the 343m wheels, but I wish they were tucked in 10-12mm both font and rear. Unfortunately the front won't clear the bigger calipers without 7.5mm spacers (thanks to Unspec for experimenting and sharing). Rears don't have spacers - they're just huge.

Anyway, curious to hear what wheels everyone is running that can work on the front axle without spacers. I've got a couple of wheels I'd love to get but it's hard to gauge whether they'll work without spacers.

I am currently trying to source a set for a fitment test, can't find any that allow returns but hopefully soon I will find one

Edit: Speak of the devil, found one that allows for free returns. Hopefully we'll have an answer from future me soon. I'll order it in the morning.

I will absolutely admit that it's the M logo bracket I'm most interested in. BMW's curious application of a single-piston sliding caliper on the rear of M5 models is a curious (and cosmetically challenged) one. At the very least the newer models have the M logo tacked on for some visual spice.

I was at the dealer yesterday picking up some DEF for my diesel and checked out an M850i in the showroom. The rear calipers are not impressive looking for such a beast of a car, but at least they're blue with the M logo. Compared to the front they just don't belong.

Honestly, same. I really hope that the caliper from the G series is compatible with the carrier from the F series, that way it ensures pad compatibility and dust shield clearance.

OK, looking around a little... has anyone looked into using the F01 370x24 rear disc on the F10?

The G30 M Brakes use a 370x24 rear rotor, but it's a 5x112 bolt pattern. Dimensions:
https://www.bremboparts.com/europe/e...isc/09-D901-23

The F01 uses a 370x24 rear disc on 5x120. Dimensions:
https://www.bremboparts.com/europe/e...isc/09-C314-11

The dimensions look like a match to me. If the G30 M bracket works with the F10 M5 caliper, this could be a way to put the 370x24mm F01 rotor on the F10.

Anyone tried this?

Looks like they are 5mm off. Might need some spacers like the front

5mm appears to be the lack of a parking brake bell, which shouldn't have an impact on this application.

I should have been more specific - the G30 M Performance brakes use the 370x24 rear rotor (and the huge 395x36 front rotor). This is an upgraded system over the regular M Sport braking package on the G30, which only uses the 345x24 rear rotor.

The only downside (if this works) is the 370x24 F01 rotor is all cast, so it's slightly heavier (but also cheaper) than the aluminum hat rotors.

G30/G12 rear calipers will NOT bolt onto F10/F01/Fxx.. someone on here has already tried and posted it.

Easiest way to get 370x24 rotors in the rear is to buy the M5 caliper brackets or just the M5 rear brake setup..they bolt on directly without modification and work with the 370x24 rotor. (Alpina B6 does exactly this from 2016 onwards)

(And this is what I have as well)

Thanks for the info!

My comment was relating to Unspec ordering a G30 caliper bracket to see if it works with the F10 M5 caliper.

From what I can see the M5 steel rotors are 396x24 rear, not 370x24. Can you elaborate on your setup and which caliper/bracket combo works with each rotor size?

REAR ONLY:

M5/M6 caliper bracket + M5/M6 or 550i Caliper +370x24 rotor + M5/M6/550i pads.

This combo is a direct fit onto any F10/F06/F12/F13 and what I am running.

If you want to run rear rotors bigger than 370x24, then you have this option:

Tronik bracket adapter + M5/M6 caliper bracket + M5/M6 or 550i Caliper +396x24 rotor + M5/M6/550i pads.

Regarding unspec's attempt with the g30 bracket, most likely it is the bracket that is the issue and not the caliper as the caliper looks very similar to what we already have, (caliper markings are 44/28 instead of ours 44/24, which leads me to believe it can accept a 28mm wide rotor). I don't think this combo has been tested and I guess we will find out when unspec does

(I can't find the thread but I'm pretty sure its either on this forum, or maybe a Facebook posting about the full G30 setup NOT being a fit on FXX)

Just finished up the install of my front G30 calipers. I used a set of 374mm x 36mm Powerstop rotors from a 2010 550i GT. The pads had to be trimmed a little over a .25" to not hit the rotor hat. I still need to flush and bleed my brakes, but since I'm not driving the car this week, I'll take care of it later.

AHA! So the F10 M5 knuckle is what makes the difference between the 370 rotor and the 395 rotor, and both setups use the same bracket and caliper - got it! Makes sense now. Thanks for summing that up for me!

Hopefully Unspec comes through with great news on that G30 rear caliper bracket, because if that works we should be able to have the M logo on the rear by using the G30 M Sport bracket (345mm) or G30 M Performance bracket (370mm). Fingers crossed!

Looking good! You'll have people doing a double-take with those G30 looking wheels and those brakes.

Pretty sure on my end that it will NOT work... I wish it would..

Attaching a photo to show comparison.. left is g12, right is f10..bear in mind the g12 is 5x112 so the spindle is smaller/holes are closer together..

You can see where they need the taller leg on one side of that caliper.. on the F10, this would offset the angel of the pad such that it will not sit flush but be at an angel and thus not able to cover the face of the rotors as designed (if it even can allow the rotor to be installed..)

Excellent pic, thanks. You may be right, and this may be why the rear G30 brakes don't work in general.

Ok. I'll just leave my G30 upgrade video right here.

Quick question though. What brake pads are you guys running and how is the brake dust? I am currently running the stock pads that came with my calipers. They had a ton of meat left on them, but the amount of brake dust these pads give off is crazy.

Looks awesome Grant!

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say the 4x40-44 likely means it has staggered pistons; 2x40mm and 2x44mm. Staggered pistons are pretty common and help reduce tapered pad wear. In your video the back of the pads appear to have different sized round marks from the pistons.

Also, there should be two bleeder screws, one on the inside and outside. Hopefully you got both sides bled properly!

For those that doesn't want to trim the brake pads, use front rotors from a 760li. The hat is smaller so it will clear the pads without having to trim. You will get more pad to rotor surface contact that way as well.

Those are the rotors I used as well. It's also the same rotor used if the "High speed brake system" (S5AEA) is spec'd on the 7 series.
