LCI NBT EVO Retrofit Wiring

I am getting the NBT EVO for my 2015 LCI in the next few days. I have been researching but info is all over the place.

I have seen lots of info regarding the quadlock connector and the ethernet wiring but I am lead to believe this is for pre-LCI cars.

Basically I want to confirm it's plug and play on the LCI? I currently have the 10.25" NBT NEXT system. The wiring is the same and ethernet wiring is in the correct place?

Not plug and play..but it depends what features you are installing.. For EG, if you are getting EVO without GPS connector (Blue), then you NEED an ATM box in the trunk AND you need to run the ethernet wires through the car to it. Mic needs to be moved out of EVO and into the ATM as well. There's a great video by Nick that shows all the details:

Not sure what these guys are doing but maybe this is what you can get too?

Maybe they are doing ATM emulator?

So how does it work with the one that has the blue GPS plug? I can not find any information on F10 LCI NBT ID4 to NBT EVO. It's all F30 and F10 CIC and mostly just "buy our kit"

I went from CIC to NBT to EVO on my F10

For me, I installed ATM and plugged GPS to ATM and then ran Ethernet wires to the front of the car.

The RMB solution is a waste (From my perspective) because all that is getting you is a newer interface and apple car play but you lose your actual navigation/positioning. You can install CarPlay for $200 or so using an MMI module without losing anything..

Anyways, I bought EVO unit and ATM from same wrecked car. Custom built the ethernet wiring and also added the DC-DC converter (12v to 9V) on the power line to the NBT display since EVO powers display on APIX2 by default. And an awesome coder in LA helped flash my EVO and get me my VIN specific FSCs so I dont need an emulator. You also need to move one of the mics that is connected to the NBT ID4, to connect back at ATM module. (NBT has one mic on head unit and second on TCB, EVO has both mics at ATM)

So it's a project for sure and the right way to do it is what NICK's video shows. If you have specific questions, I'd be happy to respond.

Bear in mind there IS a way to use your TCB as you can find someone on YouTube has done it but it requires soldering and rework on your TCB so you'll have to ship it in.

With the sunset of 3G next month, what is the benefit of doing this?

EVO + ATM use 4G..at least 2017 builds do so RTTI is still usable and renewable as needed.

What is AMT? Also, on a 1-10 wrench scale, how many wrenches and what is the approximate cost? I really don't want to have to purchase a new car; which just may not be a BMW.

TIA.

OH.... Is BMW ONLINE still available? I assume no NAV functions are lost?

ATM = New version of TCB which works with EVO.

Its wiring and trim removal type of job so if you've done speakers or speaker wires, this shouldn't be too difficult. I'd say 5 wrenches.

Yes, BMW services are still up with ATM (4G). No NAV functions are lost with this.
(This was the setup on 2017-2019 6 series cars and 2016-2018 F30s and then GXX series before they moved to MGU setup)

Last (I hope) question...

Is the same screen used or would I have to get the "stick on" screen?

THANKS

For OEM F10 look, you buy the "stick on" screen, but lots of folks have installed the G30 screens. You can even use the NBT screen with a DC-DC converter installed in the power lines between the unit and display. But won't enjoy the full color depth that EVo has to offer

I have just installed the NBT EVO HW 4.1 with blue GPS connector. It is literally plug and play, the only wiring change was to connect the wifi antenna. Green USB connector to the TCB does not carry over.

I haven't tested the microphone yet either, but according to the wire diagram it should be there, I didn't see any major difference in the A42 headunit connector.

Now I have a minor coding issue we will see if the OABR is needed.

As far as I recall, coding wise should be ok to code as it has Can2 on Quadlock connector but if you intend to flash the HU to the latest SWFL etc, you can do it in 30-40 mins with OABR(Ethernet). Otherwise with CAN it can take multiple hours.

You found an evo with the gps built in, that is rare from factory and few ppl on eBay etc do conversion and then sell it. Good purchase there.

For any connected drive related feature, you will need oabr/atm. But for enabling CarPlay, I don't think you need a flash so coding and activation should take care of it.

So from my limited research, you can upgrade to the EVO from NBT fairly easily? Don't need anything besides the EVO unit, 4G module, and some adapters to reuse the stock display?

Is this compatible with the HUD?

This is the comment I was looking to find. I have a 2012 F10 And want to got to NBT. I have 2 options I have the NBT WITH the zgw frm and Jbbe From the sme can. The EVO was just the HU and display. A few questions.
1. Is it easier to just shange the entire harness than sourcing an adpter. I had also grabbed the harness as well from the donor.
2 I do want to maintain GPS functionality.

My first move was from CIC to NBT.. and if you have NBT already, then EVO is easier.

1 - Changing entire harness will be a major pain. Not easy, but really no need to go that far. You can add the wires and you can also buy the MQS contacts and even a Quadlock extension and switch over (After splicing in the NBT Emulator if you have not coded your evo/nbt)

2 - With NBT you can use the existing CIC GPS connection (blue fakra connection on the back of your CIC). But if you go EVO, you can either go for an EVO from a 2015/2016 235i OR even a Mini Cooper from the same years, they come with EVOs that have GPS built in. If neither of those then you need an ATM to replace your ComBox in the trunk and connect the GPS on the ATM there.
