Michelin Pilot Super Sport VS A/S 3+

Hey team. I was trying to decide if to get the all season A/S 3+ or PSS tires.

Do the all seasons look more bulk like a taller looking side wall? Also which ones are more comfortable to ride on?

Thanks for any help!

i see you live in San Diego, and if you don't drive in snow, then i'd stick with the PSS....i have the PSS and they handle great in the rain, and honestly are my go to tire for summer tires from now on...

Thanks for the reply!

I was thinking in so cal all seasons are not necessary. I always had summer tires but was wondering if all seasons produce less road noise and have more comfort?

The opposite: summer tires will generally be quieter and paradoxically more comfortable, since they use a softer compound and smoother tread pattern. Downside is tread life.

The PSS are now superseded by the Pilot Sport 4 S (PS4S). I got a set of the PS4S on my 535i about 3 months ago, replacing two sets of PSSs. They are superior to the PSS, and fantastic in every way (and hopefully a little better on treadwear, about 16k miles on the PSS).

P.S. I'm in NorCal and summer tires have never left me wanting in the 5 years with my RWD F10.

RWD here, 4-5 months of snow every year, lots of snow covered road driving.

Summer "max" performance for me 7-8 months a year, and best winter tires I can afford the rest of the time (Nokian Hakkapeliitta R2 for me).
I do agree with mness on thread life, but hey, for me it's worth it, wouldn't have it any other way as long as I can afford it.

I take you're not visiting Lake Tahoe area every now and then ?
Sucks putting on those chains on the side of the road, with cars going by.

Summer, no doubt, softer compound, less thread, quietter... again what mness said above.

Hey guys so Discount tire is giving me the AS3+ for $996 out the door and the Pilot Sport 4s for 1250ish.

Are they worth the extra almost 300 dollars if they wear out faster? I keep reading reviews that the AS3+ run quieter.

Do you DRIVE your car, or to you just drive it around?

If the first, P4S, if the second AS3+. AS3's are probably fine for 95% of 535i owners, I ran a set on my old 535i and loved them when the car was stock. Tuned they weren't adequate and I moved to P4S and never looked back.

I just bought a set of 275/30R20 and 305/30R20 P4S for my M5, $1450 at wholesale cost BARF lol.

PS4S have a tread life warranty. You'll get some $ for next pair if they wear too fast.

I have 5k miles on mine on my 535i and are best tires I've had in 15 years.

Yes! I used it when my PSS were done at like 18,000 miles. They refunded me about 1/3 of the cost of the front tires (30k warranty, but the rears are halved since I have staggered and can't rotate).

I just recently got P4S on mine. Besides the performance, I think they are much quieter than the cheaper alternatives. In my AUDI days, I was a RE050 fan and prior to the Michelins I had Sumitomo that performed great but got loud and eventually delaminated (well that was my fault).
