Why do owners say Black Interior is better for OCD?

I have always been a fan of light interior Colours as it opens up the interior of the car and the makes the interior looks less cramped. That's just my opinion . I know a lot of you all love black interior.

Now I think I am extremely OCD, I need to make sure the interior is always in the same condition as when I collected the car. Remove shoe marks, jeans stains etc immediately. But here's the thing...in a light interior u can see the dirt and marks hence remove it. In black interior u can't see it...EVEN THOUGH ITS THERE! So It's more of a " I can't see it so I don't care if it's there or not". Because without a doubt black interior gets the same jeans stains and other marks as light leather.

Black shows dust quite easily and in my experience it also does not age as well as some of the lighter interiors. It hides or doesn't get stained as easily as lighter colors.

So you win on one side, loose on the other.

This.

I find as long as the carpets and headliner are black, I can deal with contrasting seats & door panels in most any color.

Just like everything else, no right or wrong here.

I absolutely love light interiors and I think often they make seats look better, more upscale and also give appearance of larger space like OP said.

I realize that black is somewhat "boring" and safe choice, but that's what I like. I wouldn't chose light colored interior/seats in my car for two reasons.
  • Not a fan of "two tone" look around the console, dashboard and door personally.
  • Maintenance, although no first hand experience, I would think it's more demanding to keep in showroom conditions all the time, and many agree.

As other posters have said black interiors have both good points and bad.

Good: Doesn't show stains as much as lighter interiors (especially the carpets), doesn't show scuff marks, and doesn't show dye transfer from clothes.

Bad: Shows every little speck of dust, gets hot in the sun, and can be somewhat somber (think coal bin).

I've had both light and dark interiors and even though I probably prefer the lighter colors for creating a less somber cabin, I much prefer black for ease of keeping clean (especially in the winters of Michigan).

My '14 has black interior (with contrasting white stitching). My old Lincoln had Dove (oddly, the same color gray as BMW's in that year) and my first 535 has Oyster (Our other 2 Lincolns had black also). I liked the Dove until it was time to clean. When looking for a '14 one of my requirements was a black interior.

Dust easily wipes off; the Swifter duster works very well. Wrinkles also aren't as obvious.

I've never liked either black or light beige or oyster interiors. I like something in between, with some color. My 06 E91 had Terra Dakota, then my 11 E90 had Saddle Dakota, and then I searched high and low for the Mocha Nappa in my 14 F10, which is my favorite.

Lighter leather requires minimally more maintenance and care the. Black leather. It is not hard work to maintain
