H&R swaybars
Hey guys
I've posted this in m5 sway thread but want to get more from you Why don't we look at H&R F&R sway bar set. According to H&R they are 30mm front and 20mm rear. But it says it fits only RWD models So they a way thicker than m5 and should add more stiffness. My question is, if the M5 front sway works with Xdrive models, will H&R for non xdrive work with xdrive?? I can't find it on US web page but found at H&R.de http://web1.carparts-cat.com/default...B107001&12=130" rel="ugc" target="_blank">http://<a href="http://web1.carparts...001&12=130</a> |

Finally!!!
Ordered and installed H&R sway bar set According to H&R it fits RWD vehicles only But after you guys installed M5 and 550Dx bars on your RWD and AWD models, I had no choice and gave H&R a try They fit my Xdrive!!! With no issues! Thanks to Alan I. Kit contains blue color front and rear bars and bushings Front bar is 30mm Rear bar is 20mm Well, now it feels like perfect driving and cornering! Plus to my H&R spring it feels much better now! Im totally satisfied with them! So for those who are thinking on upgrading to thicker sway bars, give H&R a try, they are thicker than M5 and 550Dx bars! Last edited by FedM; 03-04-2014 at 12:44 PM.. |

Good to hear it fit the xDrive, as expected.

Bringing back an old thread - getting sway bar upgrades for these cars is a total crap shoot. My 2014 535d xDrive feels like an 80s Cadillac Deville...can I get the M5 front and 650 rears? Or will this H&R kit work for me? There seems to be so many variables...

FYI
i love my H&R, there is a company that sells them for dirt cheap i think $400 shipped from Germany! I plan on adding Lowering springs, rims and a CF rear diffuser with exhuast etc.. i have a 528i, not the fastest, but the little work i did does make it easier when i need to speed up.

I have them installed
The are fantastic on the track and on the freeway, but if you drive places were the road is bad, the make the ride suck big time, to the point of making the journey dangerous, because you get thrown up when you hit a hole or drive over deepeing in the road. |

I've done both sets, and prefer the H&R. Of course, that does not mean you will like it, as it definitely is much more stiff and tight vs. M5/650 combo or base. Bigger does not always mean better. Your driving style is all too important. If possible, ask a fellow member in your area for a ride (w/set-up/s). If you are near, you can drive my car. |

Exactly! I had a 2015 Chrysler 300 I installed an Eibach Sports kit. It was outstanding on corning. I loved it however on road bumps and bad roads it was awful. As mentioned check with other users before forking out money for purchase and installation. I am definitely looking to add bars to my 2015 550i. I have installed Koni Active with Dinan springs. The ride is soft however i am not low preventing scrapes as i did in the 300. My interest now is to stiffen the roll. |

I had my OEM front & rear sways replaced with the H&R sways on my 535i M-sport. IMO, I don’t feel the significant reduction in the “boat-sway” as much as I expected when the car is turning or cornering; however, I do feel that they hug the highways better and more firmly especially at high speed and during lane change.
As far as the ride comfort, the car sure feels a little “harder” but I don’t feel that the upgrade compromised much of the comfort in exchange for performance, but perhaps because I haven’t been exposed to some of the really poor road conditions here in So Cal. Overall I am satisfied with the upgrade and I think it’s worth it. Hope this helps. |

I have a collection of sways for my 535xi. I should really sell some. Comments based on my observations....
First - stiffening removes grip, compliance adds grip. If you're trying to dial out understeer, stiffen the REAR relative to the front. Second - I've observed that most of the floaty leaning feeling for the driver comes from the front. But, see above, front and rear need to be in balance with one another or your chassis balance goes screwy. If you do front sway bar only, you'll get rid of a lot of roll, but corner like an aircraft carrier. Third - larger sway bars tie the left and right sides of the chassis together more closely. This reduces independent movement of the left and right side. Outside of this factor they do not impact how bumps and pavement undulation are managed. Even with the heaviest bars fitted, my stock non-sport 535xi will still nose dive on braking and do the Lincoln Towncar porpoise ride over certain bumps and such. At high stiffness you will feel a left/right rapid wobbling or rocking when, for instance, pulling into a store parking lot and the right wheel hits the driveway first. The change in ride can be hard to describe, but you'll know it when you feel it and know what you're actually doing to the chassis when you make these changes. It's my belief that the F10 badly needs larger sway bars than stock and never should have been produced in its stock form. The H&R/Eibach 30mm front 20mm rear layout is as large as I'd want the front to be for a car of its type, though. Larger sways would pair excellently with coilovers, but sways make a huge difference even on their own and can be done in 30 minutes on ramps in the driveway for a couple hundred dollars. Coilovers can't. |

I tried both Eibach bars and the stiffer M5 / 650i bars. Either set were far too stiff for Chicago's nasty roads. Any impact on one side was transmitted to the other and shook the entire cabin. KW V3s were the only remaining option (with the stock bars) as I really disliked the stock ride immensely.
