New F10 M550dX Model Revealed. Introduces New ///M Variant & Tri-turbo Diesel Motor?
Featured on BIMMERPOST.com OMG! Engine, Power? A new BMW brake pad package shows the appearance of a new model - "M550dX". This new F10 model could feature the long rumored tri-turbo diesel engine. According to Scott26 (quoted below), it's going to be an all new engine and will be available on all BMW models in the upper segments by next year. It's not an F10 M5 with a diesel motor as some claim, but will be a stand-alone F10 model like the M5 (maybe with M badge?). It will have its own look with a specific aerodynamic kit. Via http://www.automotorsport.se/artikla...lmotor-och-4wd http://www.motor-talk.de/forum/m550d...-t3416454.html Pictures are of a package for brake pads, apparently the same brake pads fit different models including M550dX. |

- It's a really great car with an excellent , efficient high performance engine. This engine is going to be identified as one of BMW's greatest and a full contender for next year's engines of the year awards. By next September it will be available on all BMW models in the upper segments. More coming soon... - It is not an M5 with a diesel. It uses a specifc aerodynamic appearance but is indentified as a stand-alone model like the M5. There will be headlines for this car. |

sounds amazing technologically speaking, my understanding is two conventional turbos powered off exhaust gases and a third electric turbocharger. I'm all for engine advancement, but this has to add another layer of complexity to the cars that is going to make them very hard to fix.

My guess is that it might be either a triple scroll unit or three individual turbos, each driven by a pair of cylinders, determined by firing order. |

^ agreed, I try to pass Prius's on the interstate just as fast as I safely can (triple digits generally) just because I despise them...

I'd buy it! Seems like a cool concept, plus diesel revolution for high-performance vehicles in Us..
And with a tune, it would be redic!

I'm all for conserving our resources and the environment, but it's a pretty futile effort. Population control is the answer, but if we can't even switch to fuel saving cars. . .
Plus, it's not like cars are using up all the oil. . .

Good news, the F11 version could be the ultimate family car.

Not so in the UK, but diesels make more sense due to the increased MPG and then there's all that glorious low-end torque which propels you rapidly towards the horizon.

Ah yes, I was forgetting the turbo/electro/supercharge system, in which a turbogenerator unit provides electrical power to drive the supercharger. Naturally, an extra high-capacity battery is required to prevent acceleration lag and, other than having to lengthen the car by around three feet to accommodate the entire system, it works very well. The only downside, as I'm sure you'll appreciate, is the pronounced understeer as a result of all the increased weight

If it is supposed to be environmentally-friendly, then what about those Lithium Ion batteries? Manufacturing those has detrimental effects on the person's health, and getting rid of those batteries is not environmentally-friendly either. TOUCHER |

This M550dX sounds interesting, as long as they differentiate it from the regular M5 I can only see this new model as a good thing. |
