2011 550xi Valve seals

Hi, I have a 2011 550xi that I'm being told needs valve seals. Has anyone had this done?

Do you have smoking after an extended idle, or just high oil consumption? Mine were done under warranty around 75k (2012 550xi, CPO). Still has high-ish oil consumption, though...

If you only had the increased oil consumption, there are a few other items to check (blocked crankcase ventilation, turbo seals, etc). The give-away is the smoking after extended idle... best of luck!

Yes, I had it done under CPO. The N63 is notorious for bad valve stem seals...among other things. The stealership will probably charge you $8,000+ to do the job. Find an independent shop that either already has or is willing to rent the N63 Valve Stem Seal Tool Kit. The kit enables replacement of the valve stem seals with the expensive labor of removing the engine. You'll probably still have to pay a few thousand.

Any chance there will be an extension of the CCP, a "recall" so to speak, to replace valve seals ?

Heard on another thread that possibly this February/March there will be another n63 campaign to address this

Had it done by BMW after my CPO was over. Basically my car was NOT giving white smoke but hesitating and through drive train malfunction and misfire codes. They did and extensive scope test and sent a probe to the cylinder and determined a leak and prescribed Valve Stem seals. Since I had history bringing the car in for the same issue multiple times, and my car has only seen BMW dealerships, the service advisor was able to make a case and BMW owned up and paid for valve stem seal replacement. Its an extensive job requiring dropping the engine and basically a full valve stem/valve cover gasket set is changed. So far (knock on wood, my oil level is steady and no white smoke. See if your service advisor will try to make a case with BMW for you and maybe they will own it and take care of it for you.

BMW 550i -Valve Stem Replacement

Took my 2011 BMW in to the dealership to have two recalls performed the fuel pump and Aux cooler for turbo. The Service rep asked if I'm blowing smoke and I am allot of smoke was going to take the car to my indy shop and pay $6k for the work. SO long story short with 118k miles on the car he asked BMWNA to allow for the $9k worth of work for the Valve Seals which I was informed they moved the warranty from 120k to 131k miles, and it was approved, I'm going on now 2 weeks with a BMW X3 fully loaded and looks like another week or so before I get her back. Also have the entire front end components replaced since no labour will be charged "they have to take it all out to pull the engine" plus a few maintenance things on the engine. All new gaskets everywhere, timing cover, valve covers, new plugs, oil, antifreeze, clean injectors, new engine mounts, drive shafts, upper and lower joints, I'm totally before you blow 6-7k having the work done check with the dealer.......

Demand oil consumption test from your dealer.

So BMW picked up the complete tab for the valve stem seal work?

Isn't your car completely out of warranty by now?

Also, what's this I read that BMW is replacing your N63 with an N63tu (which you posted on another thread)?

How is that possible when a new transmission would be needed as well?

Please advise.

Thanks!
