What limitation with fuel did you run into? Injectors or pumps? If injectors, what injectors are you considering using? Ones from 50d (pt# 13538508153)? |

The transmission has been holding up extremely well, even before we pursued this compound setup we had installed an upgraded turbo and tune and then shipped it back to the customer who drove it 30,000+ miles. If we run into a transmission issue we will assess it and come up with a solution for it.
For the fuel system we are keeping that underwraps for now. The customer is eager to get the car back and we have just a few things to finish up. |

"We wouldn't recommend going with a tune and keeping all stock emission components on the vehicle. It can cause issues with the DPF/ SCR system."
Is this still your shop's advice? I had a 335d and fully deleted it with a 2.5 tune. It was a blast, liked it a lot, but now I have a 2014 535d Xdrive, and would be tempted to go Stage 1 and keep the emissions gear in place cuz I'm not as gung-ho as I was before. Are you finding any problems with Stage 1 tunes? Have there been enough of them to tell? |

For both the M57 and N57 we offer stage 1 tunes that are designed for stock emissions still in place. We have sold quite a few stage 1 tunes for both M57 and N57's especially on our black friday sales we had. We have not seen any issues with our stage 1 tunes. We just recently upgraded a customers stage 1 to a stage 2+. They were using our stage 1 tune for over a year with no issues.
Our stage 2 tunes and above are designed as offroad tunes that will only work with the emissions not in place. If you leave the emissions in place with our stage 2 and above tunes it will cause issues with your vehicle and how it operates. |

OK, that's good to hear; I have always heard Stage 1 with the rest stock works fine.
Now, to ponder whether to spend money on stereo upgrade versus motor tune. I gotta say, $1000 for computer code is um, um, tough to swallow. |

We couldn't leave it alone. On our dyno we noticed that the intercooler was getting pretty hot and with heat a by product of power and heat can kill power we have custom fabricated a larger intercooler for our application. After the fabrication and install we were able to tell a huge difference in the temperature when performing testing on our dyno.
We started off with a core and custom fabricated the end tanks and tubes. I'll let the photos tell the rest. Custom fabricated mounts and testing fitment of the core in stock location. Welding up the end tanks Test fitting front bumper Tacking the pipes |

The fuel issue has not been resolved yet. We upgraded the intercooler to bring down the charged air temps. We went ahead with the intercooler knowing we would revisit this once the fuel issue has been resolved and would need a larger intercooler. No changes in dyno numbers. Running cooler temps will help make everything last longer and put less stress on components. The customer will be picking up the vehicle soon and will revisit it later

The intercooler we were using before we custom fabricated this one was a wagner competition unit. It did bolt in just fine. According to their website this intercooler will not fit the F15.

Still using one hybrid turbo?
Congrats. Your shop clearly does amazing custom work. I was wondering if a second turbo has been added or are you still running this with a single hybrid turbo. I couldn’t quite tell even with the excellent documentation.

Thank you and the kind words. We added a second turbo to this N57 to make this a compound turbocharger system.

Nice! I thought that’s what I was looking at, but being a noob, I really wasn’t sure. Great to see that there is a legit performance upgrade path for the N57. Thanks for the info!

No worries
It is pretty cool to forge a pathway that will open doors for performance on these engines and share what we have found about them. |

Dyno chart
Would it be possible to see a Stage 2 Dyno chart? You only have the stage 1 on your website and am wanting to see the torque curve for the work you guys did on our car (or similar at least as ours was xdrive and unable to be dyno tuned). Still in love with the way it drives now and no issues !

Looks like our photo hosting site is down for a bit but we do have a graph on our website under the tunes. It can be found here: https://bimmerperformancecenter.com/...=6113621540902
The graph is tiny but shows that it produces 308rwhp and 519rwft/lbs. Once the hosting site is back up I will add the graph to this post. Edit: Last edited by Phil@BPC; 01-09-2019 at 09:28 AM.. |
