Water pump

I think my water pump is failing. The fan ramps up to high when I start the car (mainly when it's hot out), stays there for a bit, then ramps down. That said, what should the cost of repair be? Before ya'll tell me it's not that bad of a DIY, my chest is being held together by piano wire and two titanium plates so this and pretty much all future repairs will have to be done by someone else.

TIA.

Hmm this just happened to me the other day. Is there a way to test it with a diagnostic tool?

A failing pump should throw some codes. I think the fan ramping and then going down on first start on a hot day is normal.

Stupid question... would that be a BMW specific code? Will a "generic" code reader do? I'm too computer illiterate to install and use ISTA. If it doesn't install automatically I'm completely lost.

I think it would be a BMW specific code, but some code readers can read BMW codes. Carly might be a good bet for that, or even Bimmerlink

Likewise, I do not have ISTA on a laptop but have had good results with a Foxwell NT530.

For your 2014, you are probably still qualified for up to $1k water pump reimbursement. Check it out.

I just had to replace my water pump. A symptom for me was the fan would ramp up to high for 5 seconds and then go back down. It would keep doing that over and over. That's how I noticed something was wrong. I scanned the car and sure enough the water pump code was there.

Did you DIY or pay? If you paid, can I ask how much?

I did it myself. I bought the kit on FCP Euro.
