Coilover Recommendations

Hey y'all, I wanted to ask what coilovers you all are running or have experience with. I'm not looking to spend too much but at this point I understand that KW V1s or BC coilovers are the recommended options with a price of around $1200. I'm curious to know if anyone has experience running any cheaper alternatives like Megan or GodSpeed Coilovers ($750-$990). Any advice or input is appreciated, hoping to lower my car soon (RWD).

Bilstein B12 was always my go-to coilover kit for every car I've owned until I got my 550i and realized they don't make it for the xDrive. You can't beat the quality and performance for that price range. Just my 2cents.

I have KW V3s on an Xdrive car. Really superb adjustability and great handling with zero body roll. Not cheap, but as Ben Franklin said, "Quality is the only bargain".

Good luck.

I’m in the same boat, was between neo max and KW .
Might spend the extra money on the KW

The KW is impressive because it allows tuning of the low speed bump and rebound while retaining great high speed performance. I have the bump near the soft limit owing to Chicago pavement and it still feels great on the interstate.

FWIW, My indie said he wished he had done them on his wife's bimmer instead of the Bilsteins.

I like my KWv3s (one of the very few options for the X-Drive)

To be clear, I'm 101% pro KW and love my V3s. If you're spending that much money, then V3s are the way to go. However, if you're looking for something in the $1,200 range, I still say the B12s are the best bang for the buck, especially since Bilstein struts are mono tube and can be found for <$1k.

have you made a decision yet? I'm considering the Neomax Silvers as well, seems like a decent choice especially after realizing KWs start at $1700. Will also look into Bilsteins. Thanks for the comments y'all.

I have the Neomax with Swift springs and they're good, but not great. IMO they need more low speed compression damping. I have them set at 18/24 both front and rear which is about my tolerance limit for ride harshness, and body control over larger dips/dives could still be better.

Based on experience lowering every other car I've owned, they are hands-down far superior to a spring-only setup on original dampers, and the ride height adjustment is awesome to have.

I can't comment whether KW are worth 50-100% more money, but judging on reviews the V3 version certainly seem like they're better.

It appears you get a much wider range of adjustment with the KWs.

Independent adjustment of compression and rebound on the V3 is definitely an advantage over the Neomax, but twice the adjustment = twice the price.

One thing I'm not sure about still is the spring rates. The KW V3 has softer springs than the Neomax, and I find the Neomax to be about the bare minimum on my lowered F10 which is not even that low. The V3's ability to have more low speed compression damping would certainly make up for some of that, but I honestly wonder if I had the V3 if I would want a slightly stiffer spring. I can only assume that they have it very well set up for this application as most people are very happy with them.

The V3's aren't just softer springs - they're a different type of spring altogether. Neomax uses linear springs, KW uses progressives.

Sounds like a lot of folks have experience with the v3s, v1s will have the same adjustment features as well, correct? (without as high as quality of the v3 of course) Everyone's comments are definitely pushing me towards the KW side but it'd be the v1s for sure. Pricing is definitely something I'm taking into account so that's not to say neomax, bilstein are off the chart just yet. Don't think I've heard anyone's experience with the V1s either anywhere

V1s are not adjustable.
V2s are rebound adjustable
V3s are compression and rebound adjustable
V4s have high and low speed adjustments for compression and single adjustment for rebound (but there isn't an F10 application).

The only kit KW made for F10 X-Drive is V3 (which is partially why you see a lot of V3 comments).

Technically the V1's are adjustable: they can adjust ride height

KW v3 no longer sold?

Hey guys

I'm trying to purchase the KW v3 coilovers but cannot find them on kw site. I contacted them via instagram and they say they are no longer made and that they may show up as being available on vendor sites but that's outdated and no longer available

Is this true? Has anyone purchased them new this year

I have x drive so need kw V3

Otherwise it'll have to be neomax i guess
