Correct. If you have C.A. you can open the trunk by waving your foot under the diffuser
Well I just went out to my car and the waving of the foot (me holding the keys) didn't work. I have comfort access. Should I be calling my dealer?

Can somebody please confirm these are not 2 different options? 2015 550ix

To be honest mine barely worked when I got my 15. I only tried to use it like twice though its not something I really care about enough to bring in to the dealer for

Is this "Insert" a requirement to properly install an M5 Diffuser or any M5 aftermarket diffuser?

or

Are people replacing the "Insert" for the purpose of still having their CA (Comfort Access) useful when replacing their diffuser to an M5?

I have an M-Sport w/ CA (which i hardly use) and currently in a market to do Quad Exhaust and DTM or 3D M5 Diffuser. I am willing to lose the CA feature on my trunk when replacing it with an M5 diffuser but if this "Insert" is a requirement for an M5 Diffuser regardless if i want my trunk CA working or Not, can someone please let me know.

Thank you!

+1, I don't like the comfort access trunk system, and would rather cover it up to turn it off anyway. Would you be able to do this mod without removing the bumper cover and tail light then?

You should be fine if you plan on swapping out your diffuser to a DTM or 3d style. I've read some guys CA still works and some don't but if you don't use it like you said than swap it!

So the "Insert" is not a requirement when installing any type of M5 Diffuser then but more so the "Insert" only purpose is to have the Comfort Access still working when you installed an M5 Diffuser.

Thanks!

i can get it to work everytime now! it didn't start out that way though, there is a bit of a trick to it. you can't push foot in to far and don't be to slow or to fast. more like a lite jab, stand still lite jab where toe barely goes under bumper or just close to it.

Sounds like 1) your doing the 50's dance with your car
2) you're foot boxing with your car

I just did this conversion from a regular Msport Diffuser to M5 Diffuser. Thank you for the DIY guides. It took me 2 hours at least but it is well worth it. I replaced the adapter and the CA (Comfort Access) is working like a charm.

I have an appointment next week to install my M5 Quad muffler so i am excited and hoping that the muffler install doesn't get too complicated.

Also today my Cyba 90MM Dark Black Quad Tips arrived and they look nice!

Here is a picture of the M5 Diffuser without the Quad yet

If anyone located on the Island need my help with this conversion, just hit me up and i don't mind helping out as long as you bring some beer for refresher

Guys, you do not need to remove the interior trim or taillight to remove the bumper. Simply lift straight up on the drip trim in the trunk and it exposes the one screw you need to remove. The BMW factory manual confirms this and I completed over the weekend. Save some time.

Also, I broke the drip trim trying to remove it by pulling the wrong way. Not a big deal and new one at dealer was $12.

Hey fellas, I just got the OEM Kit from Tischer... Pretty nice little package they got there.

I am wondering if there is a concensus on body paint matching or a matte black/gloss black approach?

I bought the peel paint as a potential temp solution but rather take advantage of the form on the diffuser. I can paint the OEM 416 Carbon Schwarz from paint scratch spray cans...

+1 to this. It took me under an hour to disassemble and insert the converter piece. The longest time is figuring out the mounting places for the sensors.

I have to adjust my hangers or I may have a shop do it. I didn't realize the M5 diffuser was a good 1" more to the center on each side. That amount of adjustment, I can't just muscle!

thanks for the instructions so far - my question would be, would the conversion from stock m-sport diffusor to the M5 one work if you have the retractable tow bar? (as the M5 is not meant to have the tow bar I am not sure if there is enough space with the M5 diffusor)

UPDATE: ok I just now realised that you can actually get a tow bar for the M5 so it should work for me as well

I finally got a chance to get this Quad upgrade done today. Shout out to Richie @ United Exhaust Shop in Ronkonkoma, NY who got it done very effortless.

The two hangers from the M5 muffler (front/back) are perfectly aligned with the M5 Diffuser. There are no modification done on both hangers. They fabricated a 10 inches pipe to marry the 2.5 and 3.0 pipe (535 size pipe and M5 Size pipe) and aligned the muffler.

They also managed to installed my Black Chrome 3.5 Cyba Quad tips and aligned that too.

Here are some of the Pictures, not the best shot but all i got

I got more pics of the whole process should anyone wanted to see them just PM me.

The initial start up sounds definitely added a nice growl to it and did not notice any drone on a normal highway driving at all.

The shop suggested if i need more sounds is to delete the resonator and do a straight pipe which will most likely be my next mod.

I also used a stainless steel hose clamps to hold the valve open if anyone curious whether i left it close or open.

Any question, please let me know.

Thank you all!

Thanks! The distance between the diffuser and top of the tip is abt an inch. Do u think that is a big gap? Do you think i need to tighten the gap more to 1/2 inch or just leave it alone?

I am thinking to clamp the rubber hanger and compress it a little bit to bring the muffler up a bit if i have too.

Any additional opinion on this will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
