Upgrade front LCI turn signal bulbs

Tried to swap out the crappy halogen turn signal bulbs for some LEDs. The left side went swimmingly, the right side; not so much... Half the tab on the socket sheared off. I'm afraid if I go any further the whole tab will shear off and I'll be screwed. So I have an LED on the driver's side and the halogen on the passenger side. To finish the job I will have to remove the wheel and do whatever it takes to get that sucker out of there. I have a new socket on order that should arrive Tuesday. For the life of me I can't figure out why the tab sheared; though I had to use pliers to turn the socket. I did grab the socket in the middle...

New socket arrived. Now I have LEDs in both sides. IMHO looks soooooo much better than the ugly amber bulbs!

I think the reason I sheared off the tab is I was trying to twist too far. After taking off the tire I tried twisting the socket and it wouldn't budge. It did pop right out so I figure it doesn't turn more than an eighth of a turn. Next time (if there is one) I'll know.

It is a pretty easy job when done correctly and I highly recommend switching to LEDs!

Did mine today . As of now, no bulb warnings or hyperflashing. Did a similar upgrade on my e92 a few years ago but had to code out the bulb check to get them to work correctly. Took about 30 minutes to make the switch .

OP, now that its been a while since you installed these LED bulbs how are they working? Any problems with the life of LEDs ? Looking at the reviews on Amazon, it appears that they randomly die in a few months (I think I see your review there too...)

Looking to do this in the next few weeks.

I had one odd turn signal malfunction error even while the light was blinking! I turned off the signal then right back on and the warning went away. Quite odd... That was a few months back and the only issue I've had. Wouldn't be me; I didn't do a review.

Other than that one incident they've performed flawlessly.

WOW!!! I just realized I did this a year and a half ago!! Man, a LOT has happened in that 18 months!!

Hey guys, made an account to post here. I wanted to change my signal bulbs to LED type, and read this post for advice. The housings were difficult to remove. I wanted to share a tip that worked for me... I got my torso as close to the car as possible - the side of my face pressed against the side of the car, and that was the angle that allowed me to get the torque needed to unscrew the bulb housing. These are the bulbs I purchased if anyone cares: Spektrum LED Bulbs | 5730 | PY24W | 6000k. Installed today, no codes. Will update if something comes up down the road.

ez! do I have the same lights like you and can my bulbs also be changed to to the same one's like yours? I dont' know crap about lights for my car

No... Yours are already LED's. For some reason BMW changed from LED turn indicators to a basic incandescent bulb. I HATED that egg-yolk look!

That always confused me since I'm pre LCI so I assumed mine were halogens?
