Any issues using F01 wheels as a winter set up?

As the winter approaching Im in the market for a winter set up for my recently bought 535i -11.

Been looking on ebay.de for a used square 19 set up but the best deals in that category are F01 wheels.

Lots of 19" F01 winter wheels available with a square set looking like this

245/45
8.5
et 25

et 25 in the front should be ok but Im worried about the rears, I think the rears should be fine considering the non aggressive 245, 8.5 set up but Im not sure.

I know the sidewalls are slightly thicker then the recommended 245/40 and the speedometer might be slightly off but can stuff like edc etc cause any possible issues?

thanks

Sidewalls shouldn't be an issue. The standard offset is 33, your 25 will be close but if needed you can add spacers.

Those wheels will fit fine!

The taller tires actually corrects the optimistic speedo.

I would look for 245/50/18, but those will fit fine.

you want a thicker sidewall for your winter set.

if you are looking for a good all-around winter tire, I recommend the Yokohama IG52c, personally tested on my RWD f10 and approved

Good call. I'm running 245/50/18s with my Nokian Hakkepeliittas on my xDrive and they are amazing in snow (through three Ottawa winters and one trip in the Swiss alps).

last winter was my first winter driving a RWD car here in toronto, and it was the most fun I ever had. the F10 is a BEAST in snow, doesn't matter whether you got xDrive or not. the steering, braking and balance was simply outstanding. the inherit ability of the chassis to charge through snow, steering safely in traffic or pulling off spectacular tail-slides through the whole corner when you have the space is simply the most fun I've ever had driving by a long-shot. I just don't see why xDrive is needed (unless you get very deep snow or drive in truly treacherous conditions like windy roads and fresh snow)

this video here should give you a good idea of how balanced this chassis is in slick conditions

+1

I use an identical Hakkapeliitta R2 245/50-18 setup on my F11.

Great winter tires!

You are preaching to the choir about RWD. My xDrive is the first all-wheel drive car I've owned and every other car or truck I've had (I would have to count but it must be at least 10) has been RWD. You don't have to convince me that RWD can be capable in the snow and this discussion has certainly appeared on this forum often. Nevertheless, pulling out of snowed-in conditions with my xDrive that I could never have done with any of my RWD cars is a compelling point that xDrive can pose an advantage in some conditions. As an aside, I wanted RWD when I ordered my F10, but BMW stopped bringing them into Canada in MY 2013 for the 535. I do not regret at all having 'settled' for my xDrive. As you imply, the chassis is very well balanced and predictable.

RWD BMW's are like no RWD vehicle you've ever experienced in the snow. they are on a different level all together.

xDrive simply gives you added traction off the line and thats about it. the balance and predictability you are experiencing with your car can be attributed to the RWD based F10 chassis rather then the axles.

unless you are driving in very deep snow or in treacherous conditions, you shouldnt let xdrive ruin the fun year-round

Like I said, you are preaching to the choir. The two other BMWs I've experienced in winter with snow tires are RWD: E39 528i, and E89 Z4. Is RWD more fun? Sure, up to a point. Is it more capable in winter? No. This argument can go round and round, but you don't have to convince me about RWD. We are actually saying the same thing except I do not think xDrive has ruined my fun year-round. Cheers.
