F10 535i water pump and thermostat
I just want to share my past and current ordeal with my 2012 BMW 535i. At 78k I replaced the oil filter housing gasket and head gasket. At 95k miles I replaced thermostat and water pump. Anyone out here having same problem? Should I keep the car or just get rid of it? I never had so many issues with BMW. My 525i E60 has 198k miles and never had single issues. Thanks for your input!

on my 2011 535i , replaced water pump at 45k before warranty ran out ($$$) it was failing. 65k replaced the boost solenoid/pressure converter ($40 part) it was making weird vacuum air noises at idle, was gone after replacement (DIY). At 75k replaced the idle/tension pulley ($130 bmw part), the pulley bearings was on its way out.. starting to make noises (DIY, pain in the a$$) not much clearance to work with. At 80k replaced the oil filter housing gasket ($18?) since its started a slow leak (DIY). Latest issue at 94k is the starter is on its way out, too hard to DIY.. bought the bosch starter for $130 new.. indy shop to install for $180 .
Also has all the recalls performed from BMW applicable for f10 535i, and I replaced all brake pads myself around 60k miles. |

We all know there is wear & tear and every part will have that. IMO, it is primarily dependent on your mileage, partly dependent on how the vehicle has been driven and partly dependent on whether it has been in any accidents. It costs more to repair BMW's than some other cars and that can sometimes cloud your opinion of just how much repair is being done. |

I'm assuming you mean valve cover gasket as well, and everything you've needed to replace on your F10 is 100% normal. Sounds like the biggest issue with your F10 is its owner. I bet that 200k E60 needs five figures worth of work thats grossly neglected too.
